After the Patriot Act was passed my uncle had an art show where he hired Revolutionary War reenactors stand outside and demand to search everyone’s bag. They had no legal authority to do so, but just about everyone let them.

it is both true that firing bovino doesn’t change a whole lot in terms of policy and also true that they have put a lot of money, time and effort into trying to make him the “never back down, fuck you, we own this place” face of the operation, and unceremoniously kicking him to the curb is a retreat

Seeing how state legislators handled schools during the pandemic was what broke me as an educator.
Went from thinking ‘the system is broken and needs to be fixed’ to ‘the system is working exactly as intended’.
