ICE has kidnapped so many people from their cars that the city had to put out this statement. Let that sink in.
Vehicles that are abandoned due to an ICE detention and towed to the City's impound lot will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost.

It is the source of so many of our evils: the astonishing concentration of wealth in the hands of a very few, and the immense political power that gives them. We cannot solve our problems until we tackle it.

At the root of all our problems stands one travesty: politicians’ surrender to the super-rich | George Monbiot
There are many excuses for failing to tax the ultra-wealthy. The truth is that governments don’t tackle the problem because they don’t want to, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Happy birthday to the most important site on the internet.

As I told a group of historians last week at AHA during a panel about marketing history books: As AI makes the rest of the web decline in trustworthiness, we all have a responsibility to make Wikipedia as good & complete as possible.
Wikipedia is 25 today.

Today, @wikipedia.org turns 25 years old. It's never been more important — or under more attack from authoritarians. Here's what to know about how we got here, and what we can do to push for its future. There's no better example of the web we make together. www.anildash.com/2026/01/15/w...

#nzpol Technology and remote work have erased the line between work and home. Many of us feel like we have to be on duty 24/7, even when that isn’t a requirement of our job. It's time for a right to switch off law in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Unions call for workers' right to ignore their bosses after hours
Document cites workers' unpaid overtime and burnout as the fallout of technological advancements and remote work. Alice Peacock reports.

Remarkable that Winston has been Govt's only voice, so far, on Trump's attack on Fed independence. And he chose to attack Anna Breman. Especially given Peters voted for the RBNZ Act (1989), which enshrined independence & created a global model for it. thekaka.substack.com/p/peters-fea...
Peters' fear trumps decades of respect for RBNZ independence
Peters chooses to support Trump's attack on Fed independence over respect for NZ law protecting independence of RBNZ, which invented the idea globally of making central bankers independent

Being “disrespectful of law enforcement” is not a crime, and is not something that American citizens should be summarily executed for by masked men in unmarked cars.
Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?"

Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

What the FSU misses (purposely) here is that X is the one "creating the material"

The images are being generated by xAI's Grok.

The reason that such actions aren't considered for Meta and OpenAI is that they take action to prevent these uses.

🧵A political/media guide to the "truth" about net-zero

1) Add up costs to install & run a net-zero energy system
2) Pretend fossil-fuelled alternatives wld be free
3) Do say "eco zealots are bankrupting us"
4) Don't say "free cars if we scrap net-zero" cos it sounds ridiculous
5) That's it!

Of all the US counterparts our own Judith Collins could have picked to strike a BFF pose with, she chose the absolute monster - inside and out - that is Kristi.
PS - I understand the slogan was a fave of the facist death squads in Franco's Spain, also
This slogan adopted by Kristi Noem, "One of Ours, All of Yours," is taken from the Nazis, who retaliated for the killing of an SS officer by murdering all the inhabitants of the Czech village of Lidice, apparently none of whom had anything to do with it, and razing the village to the ground.

entirely obvious but somehow, still needs to be said!
Private healthcare:
- Cherry-picks profitable medical procedures.💩
- Offloads its medical complications on to the public health system.💩
- Only provides healthcare for those who can afford it.💩
- Can't secure client/patient data and not held to account.💩
