@knoxharrington.bsky.social last time TAW was in Washington, DC you said to drop you a line if folks ever came to Liverpool. Managed to get a few friends together for the match against Sunderland in Dec. Got any recommendations for a first visit to the city/Anfield?

If you've ever driven through the intersection at Georgia and Missouri Avenues NW, you've gone through Alan's Oasis, where a homeless man has been giving out free bottles of water for more than three years. This is a such a great profile of Alan: 51st.news/dc-alans-oas...
For 1,250 days, Alan has given out free water at a busy Brightwood intersection
He’s built a community that stood up for him when the threat of eviction loomed.

NEW: Reuters took a closer look at violent crime in D.C. after President Trump began a show of force here. Despite the big investment of federal resources, it's really hard at this point to see any dramatic changes.

This by @katmabu.bsky.social is the best speech I've heard yet by any politician about what ICE/Trump/Noem is doing and it's not close.
I am just so fucking proud of her.

how would DCPS possibly replace these 200 teachers? especially since the school system competes for employees with the DC charter schools, MoCo, PG, Arlington, Alexandria county and city, and Fairfax

I wrote about the Kimmel situation
The Age of Corporate Capitulation Won’t Work
Donald Trump came for Jimmy Kimmel. Disney folded immediately. It’s not just bad morals. It’s bad business.

On one hand, reducing car use reduces urban pollution.
But on the other, everyone likes it and cities become more livable

DC is under siege by our own federal government, with armed military patrolling our streets & masked agents scooping up neighbors & taking them away. Our residents are afraid, hesitant to go out & to work, angry that our limited autonomy is being eroded. There is nothing welcome about this.

My two cents on #20. Don't retire it. The famous #LFC numbers carry a history, a responsibility, and a living testament to what our club is, has been, and always will be. Like Kenny's 7 and Stevie's 8, anyone who wears #20 will be expected to play with grit, guile and joy of Diogo Jota. Forever.

Would be great if this wasn’t just hanging over our heads…
Congressional Reporters on X (still the place with the largest concentration of social media active reporters) are all following the same story about reconciliation (that there’s jockeying about it) and none are asking House members about the DC fix bill passed in the Senate.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:
