My most-read stories of 2024 included natural beauty, unmarked bars, happy hours, and, because there always has to be a Maryland-related story, cocktail usurpers on the Delmarva Peninsula. A thread...

I’m sure there will be a perfectly reasonable and healthy reaction to this news.

I really hate that I’d be willing to go to Raljon for France-Colombia.
The World Cup isn’t coming to the D.C. area, but at least one high-profile tune-up is: Kylian Mbappé’s France will face Colombia on March 29 at Northwest Stadium in Landover.

It’s the developer’s name for the new buildings at the foot of the Douglass Bridge. Sandlot Anacostia has been there for a few years.

Some news from Anacostia: Andy’s Pizza has closed at the two-month-old @atlasbrewworks in the Bridge District. Posted more about the replacement – a smashburger concept from the team behind Melange – and a menu over on Insta.

A photo from last month, but I’m overjoyed with today’s result. (4-1 to the Arsenal!) Did not imagine we’d end 2025 at the top of the league.

A year and a half ago or so, I read that an entire stadium in Tacoma had booed a trans runner. I wanted to know more. She was 16, and she had stood on a podium in one of the country’s most liberal states and listened to 10,000 people boo her. What I learned surprised me:

In a bar doing a holiday movie marathon. “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” ends and we get “Love Actually,” the only time anyone has ever been happy to be at Heathrow. (Yes, that’s the least of its problems.)
