I live an hour outside Minneapolis and the local Facebook pages are all just conservatives bitching that their favorite cheap buffet restaurants don’t want their workers kidnapped. They feel entitled to treats and want the employees to suffer at the same time. It’s casual cruelty, nothing else.

People in Minneapolis don't like it when secret police come into their city to kill and brutalize them, people in rural areas think it's great. Somehow, this is a problem that Minneapolis is supposed to make amends for.
As usual, the story here isn't about "divides" or cosmopolitan elites looking down on rural populations. It is about radicalization. This woman wants violent vengeance for things that did not happen.

Increasingly convinced that one of the main reasons the "Trump is going to cancel the midterms" meme won't die is because a lot of posting addicts don't want to accept that electoralism is still a necessary condition for beating Trump. It's a perverse sort of wishcasting.
i don't even know why i'm raising this here because i know i'm going to get a hundred replies of "Trump has god powers that will let him do whatever he wants and thus we have no choice but to bend to his will," but for those of you capable of complex thought, these are questions to ask yourself.

Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"
A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

I am introducing an act that requires ICE agents to wear traditional Japanese 𝑛𝑜𝑏𝑜𝑟𝑖, a vertical identifying banner mounted on the backs of the noble 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑖 warrior class, that displays their highest grade school reading level achieved.
I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.

Whenever I encounter these focus group reports I keep repeating to myself, “this level of casual cruelty, proud malice, and deep ignorance can't be that representative, can it?” but it's probably wishful thinking on my part.
Despite years of "economic anxiety" discourse, the core drivers of Trump support have always been bigotry and misinformation.

Watching them all fall in line to brazenly lie to protect their new secret police/terror squads from accountability for shooting a scared mom in the face 3 times, is a reminder (in case we still needed one) that it’s no where near enough to just replace Trump. It’s the entire immoral & corrupt GOP.
Mike Johnson on Renee Good: "This woman was taunting ICE officers. She was impeding law enforcement. She was violating a number of laws. They were very patient ... what I saw was she hit the accelerator and hit the ICE officer and he reacted in a split second."

The animating force at the heart of US conservatism currently is incandescent rage at the mere idea of women's autonomy and independence. An image of a smiling woman who looks insufficiently deferential for their tastes riles them up enough to tear up the social contract.
this is all it’s really about for them. Not domestic policy, not “economic anxiety”, just an endless desire to punish stand-ins for the Mommy who forced them take a bath, even if it tanks their own quality of life.

a lot of people are being radicalized by ICE this week so please remember that the most important thing when someone comes to any kind of radical politics is to immediately scold them for doing activism wrong as someone who has been doing it much longer

it is 2024. I am agreeing with Will Stancil about the Biden economy and Elon Musk.

it is 2027. I am helping members of the 1st Free Minneapolis Volunteers spraypaint an icon of Will Stancil on the side of one of their tanks.
hey if any attorneys in DC want to help me bring a pre-enforcement action against ed martin, I'm 100% for it
Will you arguably can go to a judge right now. This is a threat from a US attorney. Talk to a lawyer about a pre-enforcement action

the entire contradiction at the heart of the last 15 years of dem dysfunction has been simultaneously insisting the only mechanism for punishing republican malfeasance is the vote while also adopting a posture of bipartisan comity with those very politicians voters are supposed to be disciplining.
he should be saying their failures to act are grave violations of their oaths of office, a disgrace to the senate, blah blah blah. he should be making the case to the public to be mad, not dumping it on our laps and saying “you do something about it”

I'm entirely serious about this: until you internalize the view that urban America is Real America, you won't see the urgency of structural reform of an American government whose fundamental structures so disadvantage its population centers—the great engines of its prosperity, progress, & culture.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

I don’t think the internet is the cause as much as an accelerant. Fascism and conservatism is always at war with observable reality. It’s how they project power
THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE THING RIGHT HERE THAT IS BREAKING SOCIETY.

The internet lets you pick your own truth, by selecting your way into a community where you are allowed to believe whatever feels right to you. People have come to expect that. A society of totally permissive belief.
Words just bouncing off the sides of the brain

This is an impeachment offense, and if our press were worth half of a quarter of a shit, it would be all over every single channel, kind of like Joe Biden being a bit slow with a name now and then.
This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…
