I guess I don’t really consider this a Catholic story as much as a story with Catholic influences. I don’t think he was trying to resolve issues with apologetics so idk if he can be criticized for not doing that successfully

I get what you’re saying. I just see that as putting free will in your story and making it meaningful. Eru inserts all the evil Melkor sings into the world because being given the choice is what makes anything his characters do meaningful.

Is that not in line with reality. People are vulnerable to the influence of greater forces but also make their own decisions with the power they have?

There is a bad habit of pointing to any depiction of greed and ugliness as inherently a depiction of Jews without consideration of intent or context. Tolkien puts inherent nobility and fallibility into every race.

Sad I missed the discourse. I think the people who genuinely live out these beliefs have severe anxiety and somatoform disorders. The ones that don’t are just kinda assholes. Simple follow up questions send them into a rage.

It’s a little individualistic and obviously not ideal but I genuinely think success in the next 50 years is going to be predicated on your ability to not be an easily scammed, incurious, sucker.
