My late lover, Mark, died 43 years ago next month, alone in a Seattle ICU, another HIV/AIDS casualty. The viral attack came fast as did death.

He phoned from the hospital in tears, asking me to remember him. We then lived two states apart. His last gift was a studio pic.

I just AI-animated it.❤️‍🩹🎈

Thinking of my friend Gary Way today. ❤️
The AIDS Memorial Quilt, begun in 1987, is the world’s largest community folk art project. You can find Gary on Panel #0233.

@theaidsmemorial.bsky.social I worked with a man named Mike Pascoe. We were Met Police Traffic Wardens in London’s West End. I was 20 he was in his 30’s. I found out 2 weeks ago that as I suspected he died from #AIDS. Every death is a tragedy and a life lost that should have been lived with pride.

I detest FB, but the submitted memorial stories on the
@theaidsmemorial.bsky.social page are crushingly haunting and powerful. Atlanta lost so many brilliant, creative souls.
May their memories be a blessing.

I was just talking about Steve Showalter. My assistant at Chicago House, 1989-90. We were all dolled up for our first black-tie gala, and had just made it through evening. He died about two years later. I still miss his sweet smile.

At Highgate cemetery to visit Ian's grave, 32 years ago today he died from an #AIDS related illness at Patrick House hospice in Hammersmith. Place a yellow rose on his grave so his spirit knows he is still remembered with love. #whatisrememberedlives

I stopped posting to Insta. I occasionally check posts from irl friends. But I also still check The AIDS Memorial account to read accounts of those we lost from the people who loved them. Then I read the comments & if I'm not already crying, I will be. It feels esp important to do this ritual today.

If you weren't there, and haven't studied what happened, you're missing a part of the puzzle of how we got to where we are. We as a community have to grieve how much we lost, and we need to remember.
What is remembered, lives. Highly recommend the film, book, + AIDS memorial insta.

Astonishingly, tomorrow will be the 30th anniversary of my friend Brian King’s death. And coincidentally, I’ve just listened to this for the first time, about #HIV and #AIDS in #Liverpool in the 80s, including stories told about Brian by me and Gerry Potter podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/w...

thinking about my uncle John a lot lately - in 1995 he died of complications due to AIDS

his loved animals - he fed the birds everywhere he went and one of my earliest memories is him freaking out when our cat brought him a bird wing trophy - and his favourite drink was green kool-aid

My Great-Uncle passed away from AIDS when I was six…He did the exact same thing as me, left PEI and came to the big city. Because of him, I am a constant advocate for the Queer community and I always am right there when it comes to HIV/AIDS causes. His legacy lives on. #AIDSVigil #Toronto
