As always, it's a privilege to write about queer country for @NoDepression.bsky.social This month, I write about how trans artists like Bells Larsen and Abigail Austin teach us how to trans-scend time. (See what I did there?)

The adage that you should confidently post something with a slight error to bring out allllll the feedback remains true.

Cassette: ???
The cassette player in my car played everything just slightly too fast. I hung out with this guy who insisted my Walking in the Shadow of the Big Man cassette was fraudulent bc too fast. He couldn't accept my player was off. I convinced him it was a bootleg.
Okay, who remembers the first cassette tape/CD they ever purchased? For me:

CD: Pink Floyd's The Wall
cassette: Styx's Kilroy Was Here

Living in the middle of nowhere:

Post Office abruptly closes for lunch in the middle of the day without warning.

Get on the interstate and drive to FedEx distribution center, who has a hand written note on the door that they will re-open in 2 hours.

Worst job I ever had was not housekeeping supervisor at a summer camp, despite my incredible "unclog a toilet" skills. (Dawn blue and hot water)

It was free holiday gift wrap at Lenox Square in the 1980s.

I deleted or filed 942 emails this morning. Getting myself a well-earned cookie.

I mean, I was gonna eat the cookie anyway, but that's not as much of a cute story.

But, I did address the email clutter.

One of the most intense B-52's tapes I've heard — some of Cindy's shrieks are awesomely terrifying.

_**The B-52’s - Duffy’s, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 4, 1979**_ Another week, another legend on Aquarium Drunkard’s Transmissions podcast. This time around, Jason P. Woodbury talks with Kate Pierson of the B-52s — a wide ranging chat that gets into Devo, Pee-Wee Herman, Yoko Ono, Julee Cruise and beyond. The B-52s are never anything less than fascinating; I heard there was a documentary in the works a few years back, but it may still be in the planning stages. I’m sure it would be great. The Beach Boys took the “America’s Band” title at some point, but we’d be better off it was the B-52’s, frankly. **Kate Says:** Well, the B-52s writing together was very complex because it’s by committee, putting the songs together. I mean, that’s what really made us unique though, is that we write like that, and when you do that sort of jamming and you get our collective unconscious going and all this stuff spews out of your mind, of the collective mind. You never know what’s going to happen. Listening to this week’s Transmissions naturally put me in the mood to listen to the B-52s, so I went to a vintage audience tape of the band in Minneapolis in 1979 — and it did not disappoint. In fact, it might be one of the most purely intense B-52s tapes I’ve heard, the quartet tearing through their early repertoire with endless reserves joy and vigor. Next stop, Planet Claire …

And now it is Trans Day of Remembrance.
Celebrate the living, grieve those who are gone, and keep speaking up for trans people.
Just a few weeks ago, the federal government scrubbed language related to Murray’s transgender and queer identities on the NPS sites. On this Trans Day of Visibility, we encourage you to advocate for the rights and visibility of trans folks in our community! 🏳️‍🌈

Swastikas, nooses, and the flags of the secessionist losers (bc they like to pick the local flags of dead traitors to be "edgy") are all, in fact, overt symbols of hate.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

Jamal Khashoggi was a WaPo columnist when he was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul at the direction of the Saudi government. The entire world condemned it, except Trump. This wasn’t “things happen.” It was a state-sanctioned assassination for exercising free speech.
