"I'm not in denial, I'm in open rebellion" damn that quote goes hard
“I am so bored by AI. One of the things I love about the theatre is AI can’t do it.”

Tonight, I was hugging my 1 yo baby during bedtime putdown, and I told him how sweet he'd been and how much I loved him. He spat out his pacifier and gave me a big, wet, open-mouth kiss on the cheek.

I was very touched and a bit teary.

Then it turned into a raspberry.

Ahh, parenthood.

TIL that Robert Redford was married to a historian (Lola Van Wagenen) for 25+ years.

Don't ever let them tell you history isn't sexy, kids.

Had the pleasure of reading the first draft of this story a few years ago and loved it then, but I love the final version even more! There's so much heart and soul in it. I'm so excited for Spencer that this one has now found its publishing home.
my story "Diary of a High School Necromancer" is out today in Worlds of Possibility! this is a story ripped from my heart, a voicey epistolary YA heartbroken necromancer story with many bones and jokes and goo and heartbreak and also many more bones! link below, followed by more grateful gushing

Having a baby has ruined me, because time I read about a "crooked smile" or "she tilted her head to one side" I'm like TORTICOLLIS! That character had undiagnosed torticollis as a baby and now they're asymmetrical.

My baby, 3am: Ugh, I want to be asleep again.
My baby's brain: Time to blow bubbles, just like we've done all day.
My baby: But--
Baby's brain: BUBBLES. NOW.

At least it's not the pterodactyl screech in the night (yet).

I would LIKE folks to not to use AI generated graphics for environmental and ethical reasons, but here's a selfish social motivator:

if you DO use an AI image in your PFP/banner, you're probably gonna get added to this labeller and be muted/hidden or by everyone who subscribes to it
Don't use AI images. Don't use them for your pfp. Don't use them for your banner. Don't use them for memes.

After a reading (and writing) drought of almost a year, I have been absolutely loving the Murderbot Diaries! The audiobooks are keeping me sane through early morning feeds with my 1 month old. A great study of POV and character voice (and the audiobook narrator is also excellent).

"'I used to come over here quite often to look at her books,' Magrat confessed. 'And... and she liked to cook foreign food and no-one else round here would eat it, so I'd come up to keep her company.'

'Ah-ha! Curryin' favour!' snapped Granny."

This is your reminder that thesaurus dot com is (almost certainly) using AI to generate thesaurus entries, and you should, if you can, use Merriam Webster to avoid accidentally destroying the planet via the fuckery machine.
We now live in a world where I, a novelist, can no longer keep an open tab for thesaurus dot com because they autoplay video ads. I was immersed in chapter seven when an ad somehow broke through AdBlock Plus to scream at full volume. I hate, despise, and abhor this.

So true. Especially the similes! "Lady Ramkin's bosom rose and fell like an empire" is still one of my favourite-ever lines of English literature.
this is such a key part of Discworld’s appeal

science fiction and fantasy, often unfairly, have a reputation as genres where prose takes a back seat to story and worldbuilding

Pratchett is one of the great wordsmiths of the English language, and if you love words you’ll find something there
A thing I say when trying to entice people who are not into "genre" fiction to read Discworld is that Terry clearly loves the language, his writing can be a joy just for the experience of how he put words together. How often I would just go back and read a sentence over to enjoy it a second time.

The thing about being a foreigner living in smallish-town Denmark is that my name and accent stand out, sometimes embarrassingly. But there are benefits, including that the local bookseller remembers me and always looks happy to see me come in and order another obscure English fantasy book.
