A thing about rewatching The Wire is you can see why the actors whose careers took off after it succeeded, but you can also see a couple of dozen GREAT performances from people who got zero bump from it. Some of them are local Baltimore actors, but a lot of it is just the dumb nature of the biz.

My niece, a college educated person and all around levelheaded gal, just told me that the planes didn’t bring down the twin towers and that the moon landing was a hoax.

You Tube and Tic Toc will be the death of this country.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I've only seen 70 of them, but that list is whack!
Lists are hard but also this list is insane, so I'm just going to use it to note how many I've seen (82) and make a game out of watching the ones I haven't.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

John Carpenter’s THE THING takes place during the “first goddamn week of winter.” It also takes place in Antarctica, where winter begins in March. Just something to keep in mind when people start with the memes in a few weeks.

I was watching a CGI heavy recent movie for about five minutes today, and I suddenly realized that one of the main reasons I can't believe in a movie dependent on CGI is because the "camera", which is nonexistent, does ridiculous things. Some of these movies will do that 10 or even 20 times.

I was an assistant manager at a Subway restaurant in the early 90s and I took pride in the sandwiches that I made. I went to a Subway sandwich shop recently and it was fucking awful. Really disgusting. Nobody cares about anything anymore. There’s no pride in anything.

I'm not dressing up to fly coach, where my arms are mushed against the sides of my body, the bathroom smells like pee and sweat, the seats only recline enough to make me sad, and I have to pay $20 for a "charcuterie plate" that's just a gussied-up Lunchables packet.

Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.
