Anyway. I wrote a one-page ttrpg this summer, the first one since that disastrous experience.

sometimes I wonder how "immersion" became the sole criterion of quality in online media discussion.

I'm just so sick of hearing it.

When I was much younger, I read a ton of baseball lit & fell hard for the whole cornfed (faux-)magical realism. I'm still really susceptible to all of that, but revisiting the field (heh) now is very odd.

So many explicit, unexamined assumptions grounded in white supremacy, holy shit.
for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture*, I'm reading lots of baseball lit.

This section, from Coover's "McDuff on the Mound" (a riff on "Casey at the Bat" from the pitcher's POV), is so delightful with its sheer pomo ebullience.

The press practice of relying on the govt to set the narrative is routine enough in the US to normally escape notice, but in an insurrection it looks unmistakably absurd alongside citizen reporting. Running in clown shoes to the cops & the White House to uncritically report back whatever they say.

Bad Bunny opened his concert in Chile Jan. 10 with a tribute to Victor Jara, the singer/songwriter killed during the Pinochet dictatorship. The choice is deliciously pointed, both at Chile's incoming far-right president & at the U.S.'s imperialist authoritarian.

wikipedia turns 25 today! the last unenshittified major website! backbone of online info! triumph of humanity! powered by urge of unpaid randos to correct each other! somehow mostly reliable! "good thing wikipedia works in practice, because it sure doesn't work in theory" - old wiki adage

At this point *anyone* in any policy position (government, think tank, whatever) should have enough information to understand that anything short of "abolish ICE, punish the ICE agents, severely punish the government putting them to use" is just fascist apologia and assistance.

The Baronial Class has a special disdain for traitors, race traitors, especially white women, who do not appreciate the "protection" law enforcement purport to provide from the Other, especially Black men (which traces back to lynching, for a white women to love a Black man is unthinkable).

This has been the fantasy of law enforcement and why they supported Trump. They wanted to exercise unfettered violence because even the whiff of regulation offended the rules of their Baronial Class.
