jco is under some very specific curse. everything she says has like a 5-7% chance of wisdom that crackles like thunder with no need for lightening and the rest is the silliest, most banal shit you've ever heard

next in the series is 800 and my wrists are falling asleep
I prefer reading paper books. it is an aesthetic indulgence that becomes a little strained by 700 page hardcovers. strained all the more when I need to wield the aforementioned behemoth one-handed so I can pet the dog

generally I love haters but the helluva hoteliverse has become one of those things people cannot be normal about. every fan I've encountered is either a teenager harmlessly enjoying their edgelord stage or a tired middle-aged dork enjoying the trash. whence the frantic frothing at the mouth?
I don’t Hazbin Hotel is perfect by any means, but ngl, I think dedicating your entire account to bitching about it is loser behavior. Like, shut uuuuppp already.

Now excuse me as I return to fixating on Prehistoric Planet.

ha, we have an email from the superintendent assuring us school will be in session! last time we had a weather shock on a day we shouldn't have been in school in the first place the same thing happened, and nobody came to school, and no lessons were learned I guess
so tonight we're getting -12 wind chills, a few inches accumulation, and maybe thundersnow, and tuesday we have off for veteran's day because some dork at the district thought that was a good move. i'm gonna have 3 students tomorrow

Pterosauria tree (vintage edition) ~ 🦅🌳
.
Alongside my ‘black edition’, I have also tested how my pterosaur illustration would look with a ‘vintage’ natural history illustration background’
.
What do you guys think? Which version do you prefer? The black or vintage background?

love watching people at the forest preserve with its 2ish miles of extremely flat trails in hardcore wilderness gear. guy fishing in enormous waders in water to his ankles. ladies in tactical exercise vest thingies. high end hiking boots to surmount the vast woodchip expanse of the oriole trail

the main entrance was still closed when we got to the forest preserve today and the absolute psychic damage dealt to this little creature by starting her walk half a mile from where she usually does in a place she's gone 2-3 times a week for five years is staggering. had to examine every inch

being raised by a murder mystery fanatic does funny things to your brain. nothing soothes and gentles my afflicted brain quite like a quiet, english-accented voice describing head wounds in meticulous detail

have been home sick for 3 days and in a perfect position to observe the determined regularity with which this little goblin steals my blanket

yesterday talked myself out of my usual birthday gift to myself, a mental health day. too much to do, work isn't that bad, could need sick days any time! guess who's suddenly getting sick midmorning? yaaaay, I was so... prudent

a very common requirement in horror calls is that children aren't harmed. every editor gets to set their own limits and that's obviously a common line people don't want to cross in fiction. just interesting that it's near-ubiquitous in a genre that's all about poking boundaries and transgressions

used to find them kinda annoying, but i've kinda come around on aggressively over designed villain-flavored characters who don't really do anything that matters to the plot. i have to live in a world where evil incarnate comes wearing an overpriced hoodie. much prefer vibes-based antagonism

theory-
"genre defying" is when someone writes what is straightforwardly genre but it's getting marketed to the litfic crowd for whatever reason
"genre transcending" is when someone who usually writes litfic pens the most ordinary science fiction novel ever written

looking at my schedule for my little local sci-fi con. last year they had me on (i think literally) a dozen panels. this time it's one, and it's... not really on a topic i have anything to say? whee
