WELKER: Is the Cuban government the Trump administration's next target?

MARCO RUBIO: Well, the Cuban government is a huge problem. Yeah.

WELKER: Is that a yes?

RUBIO: I think they're in a lot of trouble, yes

“In terms of global stability, the worst thing about the Maduro rendition is that it worked.” @julianborger.bsky.social writes absolutely correctly.

During Fiona Hill's testimony to Congress on Oct 14, 2019, she described how Trump and Putin discussed exchanging Ukraine for Venezuela. The quid pro quo was if Trump refuses to help Ukraine fight off a Russian invasion, Putin would not help Venezuela (a Russian ally) resist a US takeover.

BRENNAN: You're describing the regime as still in place. I'm confused why the Trump admin only arrested Maduro. The chief thug who controls the police & has $25m price on his head is still in place

RUBIO: You're confused?

B: They are still in power

R: You're gonna go in & suck up 5 more people?

It seems increasingly clear that the President of the United States just made up a bunch of stuff about the future of Venezuela and the American role in its governance after he extracted Maduro and his wife, and now his cabinet secretaries are having to walk it all back.
BRENNAN: To be clear, there is no plan for US occupation of this country of nearly 30 million people?

MARCO RUBIO: The president always retains optionality on anything and on all of these matters

See, it’s not hard to denounce this and toe it into the larger pattern of criminality.
Chris Murphy: "Clearly this is wildly illegal. This is a president who has been operating illegally since he was sworn in -- stealing from the American people, seizing spending power, now dragging America into a war overseas ... Donald Trump's entire foreign policy is corrupt."

This stuff is scary as hell. UnAmerican.
Comer: "You're gonna see the Trump administration continue to freeze funds until Democrat governors do like what the Republican governors are doing: they're complying with the federal government, with the Trump administration."

I wanted to add an observation, that this sure is one whopper of a distraction from Epstein, Jack Smith, and bad polling, and one colossal infusion of narcissistic energy for a weakened and diminished old man who has been embarrassed by advancing ill health and progressive cognitive decline.

it’s an insane digression but still relevant in its in own way. Trump has no sense whatsoever what’s going on in the world outside the bubble that he lives in and is totally dependent on what other people tell him. Which is why we’re now colonizing Venezuela
Trump is slurring and stumbling through his crazed speech announcing the takeover of Venezuela with a completely make-believe story of national security threats ended… and now he’s segued to claiming that Washington DC is for the first time in memory a place where restaurants are “again open”

We were told the boat killings were about drugs, not regime change.

We were told a land invasion of Venezuela would require congressional authorization.

We were told the U.S. would not be starting wars.

All lies.
