It was a pleasure to write this piece for illiberalism.org on alternative news media - from bloggers to newsfluencers. I end with some thoughts on how legacy news media can learn from these developments.

"Policy based evidence making" is a superb concept and something not unfamiliar in our own context
Worth listening to the 'If Books Could Kill' podcast episode on Jonathan Haidt ('The Anxious Generation'), the 'expert' Wes Streeting has selected to investigate a smart phone ban.

Spoiler alert: once again, this is policy based evidence making.

Inhumane and incredibly short-sighted. These meds keep people healthy and protect their partners and communities. This is a death sentence for people who can’t afford the meds ($20k plus per year) and will lead to more infections, more drastically altered lives, and more need for assistance.
Catastrophe: Florida's Department of Health is stopping coverage for antivirals to 10,000 low-income people with HIV infection, blaming impending federal cuts to the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. 12.5% of Americans with HIV live in Florida.
Thousands to lose access to HIV drugs with new cuts
An estimated 10,000 people are about to lose access to their HIV medication as the Florida Department of Health makes cuts to the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP).

Last time the Nordics failed to stick together, Norway and Denmark got occupied by nazi Germany and Finland invaded by the Soviet Union.

The part that gets me deep in the soul is that they’re rentals that expire in an amount of time or after so many checkouts. And no simultaneous checkouts. Libraries are being taken to the cleaners. And since libraries are usually partially publicly funded, you are being taken to the cleaners too.
No surprise to librarians, but perhaps surprising to users, demands/prices for ebooks /audiobooks are killing public library budgets. David Szalay's book, Flesh,” costs DCPL:
$28.99 hardcopy
$59.99 ebook
$69.99 audiobook
DCPL owns hardcopy; rents & must repurchase ebook & audio book every 2 yrs.
Libraries can't afford e-books. D.C. lawmakers have a plan.
The demand and price for e-books is up — and it’s busting the D.C. Public Library budget.

Interesting adaptation of a classic propaganda poster
While the pasty incels who work the federal agencies continue to churn out feeble, bloodless AI pastiches of Axis propaganda, here’s how a living breathing artist powerfully invokes design history. This is by illustrator Emily K in South Philly, a free poster-sized download on her website: →
