on this day in 1892: white Memphians destroyed the printing press and offices of the newspaper owned and operated by Ida B. Wells, a threat meant to stop her from reporting on lynching. They failed.

This is excellent. Getting around Boston with a stroller was tough - and, if needed, a stroller can be folded up and carried! For people with other mobility aids or disabilities, it would be even more difficult. This is a lovely use of the Mayor's platform.

Actor Jennifer Coolidge (Emerson College class of 1985, Norwell Mass native) returned to give the class of 2025 commencement address, telling students to ignore their critics and embrace unrealistic dreams. She also gave special thanks to her gay fans!

USDOT is proposing to prioritize areas with high marriage & birth rates for funding.

Our new analysis @urbaninstitute.bsky.social shows this approach would produce a massive redistribution of transportation funding to rich, car-dependent, high white population areas.

Thank you to @everylibrary.bsky.social for creating a legislation tracker for the 26 book banning bills already up for 2025.

Check this list to see if your state is on it, and if it is then use the @5calls.org app to call your state reps to yell about it.

Very interesting post on the (ignored) importance of masculinity and male flight in the discussion about college enrollment. Highly recommended reading. 👇
Why aren't we talking about the real reason male college enrollment is dropping?
We would rather talk about literally everything else.

An interesting read, particularly in how it relates to #kidlit.

If white men (and the boys who grow up to become them) are largely considered the "problem"--as they seem to be in many circles--the solution isn't to ignore them or wave them off, saying they can just read books by and for women. 1/

very good thread
Took me a bit but I've found the framing to put into words a way to express to the people fretting about the death of the UHC CEO why we just aren't heeding their admonishment:

The social contract stipulates that all life is sacred, and Brian Thompson violated it.

But it's more than that.

Lorena shared this pic from where she was harvesting apples in WA State. Filling these 900 lb bins full of fresh apples is hard work and she only earns $32/bin. She wishes farm workers had better labor protections as there is a lot of discrimination and intimidation. #WeFeedYou

I'm so fascinated by this study. It almost seems to suggest that a big part of the reason men harass women online is to perform for their peers.
Female content creators on YouTube received significantly more negative feedback for comparable content.

But the removal of public display of dislikes eliminated this gender gap and persistently increased female creator productivity and consumer demand.

Until circa 1980, elite colleges were actually getting more economically diverse. Kids from poor families were getting in at increasing rates, and the advantages of wealth were shrinking.

Then it all went into reverse.
