One thing AI has revealed is that there are a whole lot of people who have neither interesting ideas nor the talent to express them, and apparently not even any real will or desire to cultvate either of these things… but still for some reason desperately want to be regarded as artists.
AI filmmaking is completely unserious.

the only reason any of us are still making video essays is because no drug can replace the feeling of stitching together multiple flubbed takes into a single PERFECT line read, knowing no one will EVER be able to tell it wasn't recorded that way to begin with

We live in a time where we continue to try & replace human interactions & knowledge of the human condition w/machines & then are surprised when we stop being able to tell ppl from ppl imitating machines. The AI shit is a symptom of the culture & the cure is actual community & connecting w/1 another.

It's not enough to tell people to be "outraged." What precisely is it that you want them to DO? This is where so much falls apart and where a number of people fall short. Part of it is that people do not actually know what they want people to do; the other part is that it's DIFFICULT to organize ppl

To the surprise of fucking no one. This is why as a union you need to become both more aggressive w/these ppl, and why there should be long term planning to seize the means for your member rather than just maintain the status. If they own the tools, they choose who gets to rent them./1

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

To go further, I'd also say we can't really prove that appeasing these hatemonger gamur tourists really improves engagement. Like do they ever actually pump up a game you'd give a damn about as a dev or player? If so, why make lol cows for them & their audience?/1

Deskilling a population to capture the means & artificially inflate the competence of AI. It's AI winning by default & disqualification of all competition, and what we all must actually watch out for. Building networks of skill and learning, even it it's just enough to spot real quality, will matter
My doomer-worry about AI is not that the LLMs become omnipotent and take over the world but that the wealthy and powerful use it as a means to consolidate power and marginalize or lay off skilled workers and also everything about our technological and political and social life gets worse

Damn, fucking tragic. I know a lot of ppl know him from Dawson, but his comedy work was just so good. His time with Don't Trust the B* is stellar as was What Would Diplo Do? show the man had some amazing comedy chops & it's a shame we will not get more of them.

It continues to be WILD how much of american life would be improved by universal healthcare, education, & debt wiping for both, but both parties are against because 1 is the devil, and the other is The Devil but wants to be seen as hip & cool while licking CEO boot.
