I aspire to share my stories and maybe get into character design one day! 🎪
A character reference sheet for Beloved Aurum, a green tiefling warlock. The top row of the sheet features the following: A portrait of Beloved with his head cocked, looking at the viewer and resting his cheek against the back of his hand. There is a comedy / tragedy mask holding a flowy piece of parchment where the name - Beloved Aurum - is written. 2 figures of the same character in the same pose, hand on one hip and the other curled up. He has curling ram horns with silver adornments towards the points, BIG fluffy blonde hair that runs down his back. He has 2 pact marks for his 2 different patrons - one on his face resembling flames around his jawline and on his forehead, the second is thorns climbing up his right arm. There are scars on his stomach and his left forearm. The left figure he is in his binder and underwear, the right figure he is in his (latest) adventuring / performer outfit. A ruffled blouse with a leather collar around his neck, leather arm guards and a corset / belt around his waist. He is wearing rose, stripped trousers and thigh-high boots with silver guards/embellishments. 2 Chibi heads of his two patrons. The eldrith horror that is Mallacht, a curse upon Beloved and Crowe, the Alderking, an archfey who made a deal with Beloved under mysterious circumstances. Beneath them are 3 different blades associated with or carried by Beloved - the first is a jagged weapon with an eye and strange, flame-like tendrils (named The Tormented Sleep, a cursed blade). The second is a standard looking dagger named Ol'Reliable and beside it are two throwing knives. Under the two main figures on top is a doodle of Beloved performing aerial arts, silks to be specific with his legs split above his head and back bending to grab the silk before his face. To the left near the bottom is a written blurb about Beloved with (flame shaped) his colour palette beneath. To the right at the bottom are his stats in d20 shapes. Doodle of a DMPC from the game Cast Iron, named Fin - a cleric / fighter. This piece is unfinished but I still like it, mostly showing off his armour and playing with his character design. He has different tones of armour and pieces of both metal and leather plated pieces on his arm and chest. A blue cloak hangs off one shoulder. In one hand he is casting light and the other, although a little more off screen, holds a sword. His expression is stoic, a little tense as if ready to face off into battle. Portrait piece of the tiefling warlock Beloved holding his hands up towards his face, a bloodied dagger held in the hand closest to the viewer with implications he cut his own cheek. His skin is green with red markings, hair is big, blonde and full of curls and is highlighting with purples radiating from the background. Behind him is a gold line with strange, star/eye-like symbols staring towards the viewer. Muted gold stars sit on the purple background.

I’m glad to see people protesting Discord forcing IDs for age verification, but what I need everyone to understand is that there’s immense bipartisan pressure to make the entire internet like this, and they are likely going to succeed unless something drastic happens

This is not Discord “walking things back.” This is them further explaining the situation in more detail, and elaborating on how the new system will work. I understand the impulse to attribute this to outrage and Nitro cancellations, but this is just a better explanation, not a change.

Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)
Tl;dr: The vast majority of adults will never have to interact with our age assurance systems and their experience won't change, because we know Discord and how people use it, so we're designing to respect privacy and deliver a safer experience while minimizing friction for adults. Hey folks – I’ve been on Discord since very early 2016 and actually joined the company in 2017. Safety is one of my areas, so today’s announcement on our blog is something I’ve been pretty involved with. I’ve always cared about Discord's approach to privacy (E2EE for A/V was another of my projects here), so I figured I’d add some more context to today's news. I can say confidently that the vast majority of people will never see age verification. I say this because we launched age assurance in the UK and Australia in 2025, and we have some pretty good data on this now. The idea here is that we can pre-identify most adults based on what we already know (not including your messages!), and that looks to get us pretty far here. No face scans, no IDs, for the vast majority of adults. And if you are one of the smaller subset of folks that we can't definitively pre-identify, then still, you only have to do it if you're accessing age-restricted servers or channels, or changing certain settings. That's really not most users. (Altho... might be more Redditors, tbh.) Last, I know that there is concern about privacy and data leaks. That's a real concern. The selfie system is built purely client-side, it never leaves your device, and we did that intentionally. That'll work for a bunch of users who aren't pre-identified as adults. But if you do end up in the ID bucket, then yeah, you're right that has some risk. We're doing what we can to minimize this by working with our range of partners (who are different partners than the data leak you read about), and if it's any help, we learned a lot internally from the last issue. But I get if that doesn't necessarily inspire more confidence. Anyway, we’ll be sharing more next month as we get closer to the global roll out about the system, including the technology behind it in March. I honestly wouldn't be happy if we didn't build something good and I am excited about what we’re launching, but please let us know what you think when we share more details. And I really appreciate everybody's feedback here today. We’re definitely reading it!

It could be really bad for Discord if Californians contact the office of the Attorney General to report the potential violations of CCPA and CALOPPA citing the recent breach from a few months back where 1.5tb of user data and millions of IDs were leaked, but who can say for sure?
