Impressive work!
In a great collaboration with @hummerlab.bsky.social and the Kräusslich lab: HIV capsid doesn't break at the NPC; instead, it cracks open the NPC itself! Details in Cell: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S... @mpibp.bsky.social @uniheidelberg.bsky.social A thread below:

Protein production for cryoEM structure determination just got a lot cheaper - high resolution structure from half a plate of HEK cells with the "MIcro ISolation (MISO)" microfluidics-based approach. Congrats to the Brunner and Efremov labs in Brussels! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

David Goodsell's work (and career) are such an inspiration. So many of us have experienced the molecular world through his brush🖌️👨‍🎨🫶. I'm happy to see @jiwasa.bsky.social picking up the torch for @rcsbpdb.bsky.social's "Molecule of the Month"🧪🧶🧬
At the heart of biology is the mantra: structure dictates function.Biological structures are also beautiful in their intricacy. David Goodsell brought this into public view. As he leaves "Molecule of the Month". here's a huge thank you for helping me see more clearly🧪1/2

I am at that stage of this proposal where I think this is the best thing I’ve ever written and 5 minutes later, I think this is the worst thing I’ve ever written.

Somehow, both feelings are accurate

Polio has been detected in wastewater in NY for some time - so it’s out there and probably elsewhere too. For those of us on the older side who were vaccinated against polio decades ago, the CDC recommends a booster. Check with your healthcare provider to see if you should get one.
