There were a few years when I thought I can’t be gay & an academic scientist at the same time. James Watson pushed the view that only certain people can be scientists - basically straight white men. Fortunately in most places his view is not taken seriously anymore. But we have to remain on guard.

mourn the collective loss of genius of folks who were actively discouraged or disadvantaged from a career in science because of the same person(s)

Watson had it all: misogyny, racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia. He would have been anti-trans if he’d heard of it.
Yes, some people's legacies are complicated. For example, Watson. After all, though he was racist, don't forget his other traits. For example, he was also sexist. And also anti-semitic. And a data / idea thief. So let's not forget all the different facets.

I’m old enough to remember when Americans newspapers either didn’t believe that gay people exist or didn’t recognize our relationships or humanity (think of the early years of the aids epidemic). I’ve never fully trusted them since.
I feel one million years old here, but we do actually have a pretty reliable way of knowing what news is true. Did a real newspaper publish it? Then probably yes. Can’t find it in a real newspaper? Maybe not.
A large majority of U.S. adults now get news digitally, but nondigital news consumers are less likely to say they extremely often or often encounter inaccurate news.

Moriwaki et al. used our ipSAE metric (github.com/DunbrackLab/IPSAE) and ipTM to evaluate predicted structures of protein complexes in biosynthetic gene clusters.
They "found that ipSAE showed greater discriminative power than ipTM in identifying true binding pairs among highly similar proteins."

Our new preprint is out. Our group performed a comprehensive protein–protein complex prediction within 2,437 biosynthetic gene clusters. We predicted a total of 487,828 complexes for known BGCs, identifying 15,438 heteromeric interactions with an ipTM ≥ 0.6. (2/3)
