On Nov. 10, 1979, a 106-car freight train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed and caught fire in Mississauga.
The incident led to the largest evacuation in North American history to that point.
Not a single life was lost.
This is the story of the Mississauga Miracle.

As I am in Taiwan again, something I will never stop loving about the Chinese speaking world is that there will be some guy whose whole operation is a cart and a wok and his shingle will be, like, 鸭胗皇帝, “emperor of duck gizzard.”

30 million dead, The Somme, painting created by Mary Bishop 1976 in the art therapy studio at Netherne hospital where she was compelled to live.
Aged 4 when her father was killed in WWI, the reverberations of his death & her mother’s vast grief traumatised & distressed Mary for the rest of her life

First image (as far as I know) of the strip showing the final count of the Haihun Hou Shijing
“305 poems, 1,076 sections”

This is the first complete edition of the Shijing among excavated documents that is preserved well. It has 66 sections more than the Mao version

This is an incredible project. Zooming in on my current home of Chester it shows how the current main streets run right overtop the route of the old Roman roads (I expect the offset is due to the map, not the terrain)

Who coined the phrase "#Buddhist #conquest of #China"? It appears in Hu Shi's #胡適 English writings as early as 1925, a quarter-century before E. Zürcher's eponymous book. A Chinese #translation of the latter is, titled #佛教征服中國.
