This is an incredible project. Zooming in on my current home of Chester it shows how the current main streets run right overtop the route of the old Roman roads (I expect the offset is due to the map, not the terrain)

For #WoodblockWednesday here's 釋氏源流 (Origins of the Shakya Clan), with a preface dated 1490 CE. Printed in the Joseon dynasty in Korea. Illustrations and short texts tell the story of the Buddha's life and manifestations of his power in history.

Another day, another chart. Books in the 1938 Buddhist Studies Press Beiping branch catalogue by creator. 3172 total books listed. The Jinling Scriptural Press (Nanjing) dominates, but the representation of the Changzhou and Hangzhou presses is impressive. I've removed labels for presses with <1%

Crunched some interesting data from a 1938 Buddhist book catalogue, 佛學圖書目錄. Of approximately 3467 books listed, nearly 3/4 were woodblock printed works. This old technology remained in widespread use through the modern era. crta.info/wiki/%E4%BD%...
