Okay, I guess I just processed this one.
The answer to 'Housing is expensive' is a 50 year mortgage? Are they trying to commit political suicide?

To me, Prop 50 means that both democratic leadership and the party's voters are on the same page. They proposed and we delivered. It won't be the last time.
They poked the bear & the bear poked their asses back.

"We have statements from the 13 women."
"And video."
"In analyzing the video, we've identified 8 more."
I like how Zohran Mamdani scandals are like "He called his old cousin his aunt one time" and Andrew Cuomo scandals are like "He sexually assaulted 13 women."

Sometimes technology can still be good.
California hasn’t issued an emergency plea for the public to conserve energy, known as a Flex Alert, since 2022. Experts credit much of the progress to a surge in battery energy storage systems in recent years.
California invests big in battery energy storage — and leaves rolling blackouts behind
Batteries that pair with clean solar and wind energy or just bolster electrical grids in general have completely taken off and are making a big difference on the California grid.

Someone I know described how they used an AI chatbot with a verbal interface during podcasts to look things up.

That would drive me insane. To know that some percentage of what it told me was just nonsense. I couldn't listen to that.

He's been my SF supervisor and my State Senator. I'd love to see him in Congress.
It’s official: I’m running for Congress to represent San Francisco!

I’ll fight for our city – against Trump’s takeover, for our values, & for real progress. I’ve delivered on housing, healthcare, clean energy, & civil rights – & I’ll do it again.

Let’s build the future our city & country deserve.

I care more about policy than symbols so tearing down the White House is a 'meh' for me. But it's more disturbing the longer I think about it.
Kristi Noem’s new private jets. A shocking White House demolition. The Trump administration’s gilded priorities are clear.
What shutdown?

The replies are pretty interesting. What I'm getting is that we haven't caught up to this era yet. I think we'll get there, though.
Someone doesn’t remember how badly going to a video store sucked, and just generally how much worse things were in the 90s-2000s. Oh, it doesn’t work perfectly? Sometimes they just didn’t have the thing you wanted. We live in an era of unprecedented media abundance and it’s has spoiled us rotten.
I would laugh if this wasn't so true 😭

notice the general mood of the timeline? how everyone is in a good mood and there’s a lot less misery and dooming? how there’s a lot of “we’re going to beat these assholes”?

anyway that’s why these events are important

It’s very hard to beat the Powell Hyde Cable Car line for this purpose! Not a bus, however. For buses: the 48, 44, 52, and 36 all go to the same corner of Portola and Woodside, and from there you can walk downhill in all cardinal directions through totally different and cool places.

I see an inflatable Kenny in that article. And if ICE would like to do the funniest thing ever, I have a suggestion....
President Trump has used apocalyptic language to describe Portland, Oregon. Some demonstrators protesting ICE are responding with colorful animal suits. “It was just to contrast the narrative that we are violent extremists. The best way to show that for me is being in a frog costume.”

For the 'but they'll just ignore it!' crowd, they don't seem to. We can see an order like this slowing down the administration in LA.
New: A US judge entered a 14-day order restricting when federal agents can use physical force and make arrests during Chicago-area protests against the Trump administration’s ramped up immigration enforcement, in response to claims of unlawful tactics and free speech violations

Such a clear example of why protesters should continue focusing on the peaceful. It's a huge advantage in setting the mood and winning public opinion.

My sympathy goes out to the journalists taking this so hard.
The rest of us knew CBS News was doomed. The corporate news model doesn't work. Only independent media, yes, like the New York Times, can survive.

I use it sporadically, like once a month.

Congress doesn't have to be in DC. Philly would be a good place, for historical reasons.
Do think the single most likely do or die flashpoint for this administration is gonna be the seating of the 120th Congress
Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva hasn't been sworn in, so she has to roam Congress with an escort

I saw her this morning going through security along visitors — something lawmakers don't need to do when walking into the Capitol

The thing to remember about AI 'discovering' new things is that it really can't. It's fancy compression.

Statistical fitting has its place, but not one that's going to earn you a billion dollars.
