For #FossilFriday here is some #UrbanGeology. Visiting York Minster but my eyes were drawn to C18 memorials with very dark limestone and lovely #fossil #corals.

Merry #Crustmas to all who celebrate! Hoping you are firmly attached to people you love, are able to scoop up large amounts of food, and can hide in an impervious shell when the social situation requires it ❤️

What a stunning little fungus.

One for @alexwild.bsky.social to look out for at Christmas!
You're currently looking at fungus (specifically Gibellula alata) emerging from a spider. Right now, there are only six observations of this species on iNaturalist!

Happy Birthday to @flygirlnhm.bsky.social

It’s probably a bit quiet out there now, but may your spring garden be full of flies!

Jolly old St. Nick is heading to the island of Madagascar!

He will leave all kinds of flowers, seeds etc for the endemic lemurs we all know and love.

But feast your eye on this guy! This is the giraffe weevil! Santa will gift him lots of yummy extra leaves on his way by!

This was truly one of the highlights of my trip. Now, with pareidolia, I know some people will see through the mimicry right away, while others raise an eyebrow in confusion. I tried to photograph it the best way I could. Let me know if you can see the snake head!

On Christmas Day I will be cooking with my daughter. She has a Gantt chart, which delivers the whole meal on time!

Day 24 of #InsectAdvent and the flying reindeer have arrived!

Oh no they haven’t…

It’s a Ricardia sp (Richardiidae) that I collected from Honduran Cloud Forest, one of the many species of antlered flies.

Ah… emptied the campervan today and in the boot were the four missing #pitfall trap samples from France this year!

Good news found them; bad news more samples to pick, #ants to point and ID 🤣

Fortunately they are nicely labelled, in pure EtOH so all will be fine!
