This is a map of northern Canadian localities my group has studied mayflies from - I've had the great fortune to visit most of these and collect them myself, though some are from a study of archived specimens from various studies.

This place is the best! Before Covid, they had a warehouse day where for $35 you could take home as many books as you could fit in a box. Now they’re completely online and have great promos if you sign up for their email. Inventory turnover is constant and deadly to my wallet. 😅

I am a huge, huge fan of iNaturalist, but Alex's post is absolutely true. Keep collecting those bugs, please! (but keep submitting photos, too, because we've learned a lot from iNaturalist as well... including where to go back and collect voucher specimens)
I know that everyone loves iNaturalist and racking up observations from photographs. But there really is no substitute for physical specimens, so many species are not easily identified from photos.

Why should Alberta stay in Canada? The reasons aren’t just economic or legal. I hope you will read and share my robust rebuttal to those trying to break up our country. And I hope you’ll respond. #cdnpoli #Alberta #ableg #abpoli #Canada #SenateofCanada

Cryptotermes mobydicki, a new species of termite is described from the soldier caste. Its head does kind of resemble the one of a sperm whale, doesn't it?

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to get off US tech and I put together a guide so you find alternatives too. I hope you find it helpful!

In case you’re curious, you can’t be convicted of crimes in Canada unless the crime itself was actually committed on Canadian soil

Meaning we can’t send nighttime raiding parties into other countries, kidnap people, then prosecute them in a Canadian courts
