Many of us who grew up with these stories around the dinner table have been living in fear since 2016. After that first inaugural, I couldn’t walk into a public place and not wonder who’d be willing to hide me if it came to it. So I left. Now I see lots of people would hide me. I hope they win.

We need to pick up this Overton Window and throw it as far as we can. Stop waiting for shit to “be popular” and start advocating for what is transparently right.

Clearly he’s already an unhappy little man, but I wish him many years of arthritis, random allergic reactions, chronic bladder infections, and root canals.

Been fighting this fight for a long time. This is from 2011. NPR did not respond beyond this automated message.

Maybe he can see in death what he could not see in life. That he was so very wrong about so may things. Or maybe he’s just gone and the world is a little bit better.

Before this guy, cities all over the US already had line items in budgets to fight against convictions of officers and lawsuits against them. If they were trained to protect rather than attack, the training was ridiculously ineffective in way too many cases. Look around before you post.

A woman who brags about killing puppies thinks it’s ok to kill an innocent woman. What a surprise.

Watched The American President. It’s a pity Mr. Dreyfus’s chose to be Senator Rumson instead of Mr. Holland IRL.

Biggest bug I’ve ever photographed. A giant red-winged grasshopper, Tropidacris cristata. Scared me half to death when I almost put my hand on it as I walked down a steep slope. 🌱

He means they liberated their countries from foreign rule. Opposite of what trump wants to do now. Bolivar did free enslaved people, though.

People who have not been in touch in ages, including my brother, are all suddenly asking if I’m safe in Colombia. Let me tell you. I have health care and very few guns in the hands of the people around me. Trust me. I’m safer here than there.

May they both have food poisoning today. May they spend the rest of the year wondering if someone tried to poison them, and may the thought haunt them every time they are hungry.

Right!! And people did some wild sketching in the days before widespread photography. My aunts’ high school notebooks are full of pages worthy of framing. It really blows me away. And they went on to just raise their kids quietly because, apparently, they were just average.

In Colombia we drink coconut limeade. Blend limes with ice and coconut cream from the can. The sweet from the coconut cream combines beautifully with the bitter from the lime pith, and the juice gives it a tangy kick.

Let’s finish the year with something beautiful. Treehoppers in the genus Metacalfia. A mom and her babies. They have such unexpected colors when seen up close. The mom in on the left of the first image. 🌱
