I’m a huge fan of @wikipedia.org and just spent about 4 hours uploading a handful of my photos. I hope someone finds them useful. Here’s one of those images. An ant and its funky Cordyceps horn.

Diminutive fairy wombat poop. Tiny cubes under 2mm on each side.

These are egg sacs made by a spider in the family Theridiosomatidae.

They made yesterday’s hike special. Finding something I’ve never seen before is such a thrill.

So embarrassed I voted and campaigned for @kaine.senate.gov for as long as I did. can’t wait to vote for whoever primaries him. Yes, overseas people can still vote, campaign, and donate. And I will.

A moth in the genus Paleomolis stopped by the front light last night.

Today I attended an @inaturalist.bsky.social webinar and while my bread was proofing and baking I helped identify some bugs. I feel so very accomplished.

The celebratory baking continues. Hearing from friends in Virginia who worked so hard for this. Also, I thought about heart attacks and aneurysms as I punched down the dough. Some day we will wake up to excellent “bad” news.

A year ago, as I was prepped for surgery to remove a tumor, I had a panic attack. Nurses kept reassuring me all would go well. I was panicking about trump being president. People in Colombia still don’t understand why.

Also, my bill was the equivalent of $7. Affordable health care FTW

How big was the propaganda effort against Mamdami? Many people in the Jewish community in Medellin, including my mother, were bombarded for weeks with messages about how scary he was. Messages also asked for donations to organizations to campaign against him.

I baked a batch of celebratory biscuits. Paul Hollywood would shake my hand.

I have been so stressed I had shut out all news. And just now when my kid called to tell me about VA I had a massive crying jag. I’m so happy.

This is me shaking Spanberger’s hand, grinning like a loon. I was so excited to meet her and I’m so happy tonigh.

It’s been 10 yrs since Colombia legalized same-sex marriage and same-sex couples’ right to be parents. My sister and her wife made this possible.

Last week, Patel was caught using a $60M government jet to visit his girlfriend. trib.al/eNRxceS

In a wordy social media post Sunday, Patel condemned the press coverage while arguing she effectively deserved the taxpayer-funded airlift since she’s a “true patriot” and a “rock-solid conservative.”

It is morally wrong to want a computer to be sentient. If you owned a sentient thing, you would be a slaver. If you want sentient computers to exist, you just want to create a new kind of slavery. The ethics are as simple as that. Sorry if this offends

Today I was going to listen to a true crime podcast. Instead, I picked a random episode of A Prarie Home Companion. February 3, 1996. A celebration of Buddy Holly, cowboys, and Groundhog Day. I just found this archive recently. I’m still mad at Garrison Keillor but it felt so good to listen.

Cab drivers have been on strike in Medellin. They stop picking up passengers & park along the busy north-south thoroughfare along the river. They want better regulation of ride share platforms that can get away with underinsured, poorly maintained vehicles. Traffic has been tough but I’m w/ them.

Hummingbird feathers. Maybe I’ll make a tiny fan out of them. These are likely from a sparkling violet ear, a very aggressive species that frequents our feeders.

It is called a circumhorizontal arc. It is, in fact, caused by the crystals in those cirrus clouds, but due to the angle of the sunlight, the distance is much larger between the sun and the spectrum band than that of a sun dog. Lucky I looked up when I did. Didn’t last long.
It’s not a sun dog, it’s not a rainbow. It’s a straight line of rainbow colors above the tree line. Never seen anything like it.

Ted Kennedy died 16 years ago yesterday.

“For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.”

Glad he can’t see what Swiss cheese brain is doing to the world.

I’m back in Colombia after a month away that included five days in Chicago. Everyone wants to know how people in the US are reacting to what’s happening around them. It is weird that life looks like it always has for most people. I wonder when it won’t.

Seeing a lot of racist pinkwashing bullshit about Muslims and homosexuality and it’s a good time to share how I was on the gay marriage beat for a decade and racist gays never believed me when I shared how US Muslims favored equal LGBT rights (52%) over Christian evangelicals (34%)!
