They're clearing unhoused folks from Cedar Ave under the bridges today. Talked to one of the garbage guys who says the city didn't even let them come by and pick up garbage bags for the last month.

The city created a health crisis by refusing to help the unhoused with their trash.

I don't think anything new was discovered since this reporting: www.startribune.com/could-minnes...
Could Minnesota officials have stopped Feeding our Future fraud sooner?
Minnesota's attorney general questions why the federal investigation took so long. But a spokesman said the office could have done more investigating itself.

The work of repair is going to be hard, long, and quiet.

The ripples of this will be with us for years to come.

May we stay in the work.
With the announcement that the ICE surge in MN is ending, I’m thinking about how so many people thought the child in Bad Bunny’s halftime performance was Liam Ramos and how our need for Hollywood endings and satisfying payoffs might hinder us from dealing with the painful and traumatic aftermath.

Y'know I had a guy the other day who found out I was a science journalist, and was asking are there really aliens?! What about the Loch Ness Monster! Yetis?

I was, at least, able to give him giant squid (he was thrilled).

But it made me sad. We don't NEED aliens or Nessie.

BUGS CAN DO THIS!!
Sounds about right. I mean, I’m not even a bug person but somehow get 500 results when I search β€œbug” in my iPhone photos. Here’s one of my weird bug moments. Look at him working those mouthparts!

Thanks. I realized when I saw the question, I have no idea how fame works for non-nerds.

So, the folks detained at Whipple are largely being released. Their phones, wallets, and often their winter clothes are confiscated. They are dumped out the front gate with nothing.

Haven Watch is standing there and welcomes them back.

My coworker returned recently. He's finally starting to talk like his normal self. We have absolutely avoided the topic, and stick to things like music, where to shop, and our kids. Been here 25yrs.

I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.

"Hiya... Hope you're well.

I am working with my sisters to organise a couple of collaborative resistance quilts.

Although, it's still very much under construction, I finally have the site pages where the Calls For Participation mostly up & functioning."

Isolation is deadly. I shudder to think about people in already stressed families in hiding right now.

What happens to someone who might normally be able to secretly get abortion pills without an abusive partner knowing, for example? A lot harder to hide if you’re also hiding from ICE.

Need to stress that, like the Pretti killing, this terrorism is happening in extremely mixed use residential neighborhoods. Cafes and restaurants just down the street. The St. Paul Curling Club that's put out so many Olympians competing *this week* is like two blocks away.
This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paulβ€”an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.
