One of the interesting things I'm coming across in my research on US fascists in the 1940s is the way they split hairs over America being a republic rather than a democracy, which allowed them to insist the latter was communist-inspired mob rule while painting their fascism as true Americanism

Incredible.

Stancil complains of "cool leftists on bluesky" telling him to die,

includes 4 screenshots,

0 of which are of people telling him to die.

Stancil will no doubt go on to bemoan social media planting misinformation in people's heads, while never looking in the mirror.
remember guys, when the nazis on twitter tell you to die, it's terrible harassment. but when cool leftists on bluesky do it, it's just funny comeuppance for a worthless lib everyone hates

E...Eddington (2025)?
The data center backlash has 2009 early days Tea Party vibes.
Except with much more potential broad-based support since, as @heatmap.news own polling has shown, its seems like just about *everyone* hates data centers.

Definitely going to see more politicians try to catch this wave.
Did you know a former White House climate advisor flipped a GOP stronghold in Virginia by running entirely on putting a stop to more AI data centers?

For @heatmap.news I profiled John McAuliff and a campaign that will be a roadmap for all future anti-AI politicians moving forward.

Stancil's been on a tear against "progressive" nostalgia lately, heavily citing two types of goods that have improved in recent decades: apparel and cars.

I notice he's avoiding the 3rd type that's improved: telecoms and electronics. Perhaps because it'd interfere with his Fonez Bad shtick.
This really is just nostalgia. Cars are much better now. A $65 pair of shoes will still last years if you don't beat them up, and you can buy better ones for a bit more if you like. The annoyances in modern products are "too many useless features" and not "could malfunction and kill you."
Cars were better when you didn't need a subscription to turn on your heated seats or when companies couldn't literally throttle your engine output/power without paying a subscription fee! That kind of rent seeking makes products worse and makes them want when products didn't do that.

They do get banned once in a while. Have we already forgotten The Charlie Kirkening?
I think this site would be significantly more popular if the people who talked like this would just get banned once in a while, even if (gasp) they identify as a leftist

Quite a lot of replies to and quoteblueskeets of this suggesting that lots of moviegoers are just stupid, which, maybe, but surely for a Christopher Nolan movie specifically the atrocious mixing of dialog is likely a factor? (I saw Oppenheimer _in IMAX_ and missed scores of lines of dialog. Scores.)
does anyone else remember the way inception was sold as this super confusing movie? and that newspapers were printing visual guides on what the plot was? and then you saw the movie and it was actually really straight forward?

what was that about

If the political opposition doesn’t put these ICE & CBP institutional criminals in prison, annihilate their budgets, purge the datasets and repeal their authorities, this will keep happening. And that opposition will reveal itself as a false, controlled opposition that is no less predatory on people

Suspect there might be a wee bit of a tension between the below and Stancil's "the founding principles of this country [...] were not racism or slavery or genocide" and "founding documents" whitewashing of a few months ago.
There is nothing to RETVRN to. There is no great America in the past for us to reclaim. The America we lived in only a year ago was the best of all of the Americas there have ever been

When "rich guys disagree with something" it becomes a 50/50 play. See e.g. Brexit, where finance and Big Tech and industries reliant on JIT supplies (of labor or parts) trended anti- while extractive industries, individual rich reactionaries, and the petit bourgeois trended pro-.
the idea that “democracy is a sham, moneyed interests have always controlled it” feels very intuitive when you’re teenager who’s just discovered that lobbying exists, but doesn’t even make sense on its own terms—what happens when rich guys disagree about something?
ok Big Pharma spends so, so much more money on lobbyists for both parties than Israel does

Big Pharma clearly does not control the government

why do people attribute things like the shutdown to AIPAC when clearly lobbying money cannot even protect Tylenol from being slandered

Jeez, that Hindenburg Research report didn't do much of anything, did it.
Metaverse didn't go away tho? The fruits of all that money are arriving now. Consumer AR + VR hardware + spatial computing, huge demographic shift in how the internet even gets used (despite everything, Robox is crushing it). Enterprise/industrial use cases quietly moving forward at some speed.

Speaker Johnson is officially keeping the House in recess again next week. This will be the eighth consecutive week the House has been out of session. The chamber hasn't met since Sept. 19. Adelita Grijalva, who was elected on Sept. 23, has not been sworn in.

Let's go! The City of Cleveland - home to a public power utility - is one of the first in the nation i've heard of so far banning shutoffs during this federal shutdown crisis.

Public power can lead the nation in showing what democratic institutions can do to make our lives better.
We're announcing a 30-day moratorium on utility disconnections.

The federal shutdown and cuts to SNAP benefits have placed an unfair and unexpected burden on households. No one should have to choose between keeping the lights on and putting food on the table.
