Scamming is all they know. When your brain is rotten by AI, that's the best you can come up with, I guess.

yep - the business case here is low-effort spam. that's not a new innovation, it's just more accessible to become a low-effort spammer now.

if your intended business model is spamming people, you're either an anti-consumer cynic, or a get-rich-quick sucker.

but you're not an innovator or pioneer.
This article is incredible. It says everything us actual authors have been saying for years, but with a smile on its face.

“If you hide that there’s A.I., it sells just fine,” she said.

Uh huh? Tell me more. Like how you published 19 novels to sell 20,000 copies. An average of 1000 copies a title.
“If I can generate a book in a day, and you need six months to write a book, who’s going to win the race?” God this is bleak

That’s famously how scams work. “If you hide the fact that it’s not real gold, it sells just fine.” “If we hide the fact that we are selling a picture of a bag and not a tangible bag, it sells just fine!” You can sell anything to anyone by lying

Reminds me of recruiting, where AIs are now reading a slush pile of AI-generated job applications.

Yep, if it’s not worth her time to write it, it’s not worth mine to read it. Let the AIs read it.

If she can "generate" a book in a day?

Who the hell would ever want to read a "book" generated in a day?

I'm behind on my reading of actual books that are good, ain't no one has time to read books written by computers.

AI’s sales pitch has drifted steadily from “We can generate cool stuff!” to “We will overwhelm and smother cool stuff through sheer blunt quantity until we are all that’s left”

I will say that the section about the plus sized romance author having to go through and rewrite sections of the book with passages like "The chair groaned under her weight" is objectively hilarious. Take the hint, lady. AI is not your friend and will simply repeat the horrible biases it was taught.

Or let's talk about the Author leading this piece who published 200 AI novels last year, selling 50,000 copies which is only ~250 each.

Reader, these are terrible numbers. Proof that quality over quantity still holds true and AI has to be concealed to do any business, if it does business at all.

The median ticket price for Sunday’s Super Bowl is $7,497.

I don’t even want to know what a beer costs.

But even if you want to go to a regular-season sporting event, tickets and concession prices will cost you a small fortune.

Here’s one thing we can do about it.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.
