My wife is going to a fancy Japanese restaurant with her friends tonight and looked at the drink menu ahead of time and found an item listed as "Remon Sour" and yes we learned that the owners are white.

This is the biggest reason I ruled out running for my city council. The salary itself is four figures and the campaigns typically spend five. This is why so many local politicians in my area are privately rich already.
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.
We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.
