🚨🚨 Huge revelations about Farage from those who knew him in his youth. On the record.

"He would be sort of singing these kind of ‘gas ’em all’ sort of songs”

“I have a very strong memory of him using the W-word...and the P-word for those of south Asian origin"

Brilliant thread, this
Ultimately, the death of US manufacturing is about this attitude. It's easy to say "buy american or stfu" because virtue signaling is free. But it's hard to actually sustain a business because many Americans simply don't want to pay what it costs to produce things ethically in this country

A lot of people who are not scientists love to break out the word “polycrisis” but global warming is one of the most monocausal crisis ever: the vibrational modes of CO2 have an absorption peak around the same wavenumber the earth’s surface has a reflection peak at. We’ve known this for centuries!

an idea for Sadiq Khan: London roads should be closed off to cars from 7pm every evening when the weather is pleasant, so I can have a nice cycle home even if I've had a fun little drink

Hey @garethdennis.uk here’s a question for you. Why is that an under utilised branch line like St Albans abbey to Watford is electrified, and yet doing TRU still hasn’t happened.

On the London Overground. I’ve just asked a young guy playing loud music out of his phone to turn his music down. He asked stroppily why he should. I said because it was uncivilised.
He then turned it off and said “yeah, that’s fair”

I criticise Kemi a lot, and rightly so, but what truly helps her stand apart is that she manages to find wrong answers that no one was even imagining she'd give.
fair to say Kemi Badenoch’s last interview on BBC wasn’t a storming success

This is a really astute observation. Quickly becoming apparent Starmer is clueless politically, and this is happening at precisely the wrong time in the arc of politics in this country
What's weird is that he refused to be pinned down on a lot of issues when he was in campaign mode and instead sat on the fence to starve those issues of oxygen. Now he's PM, he's choosing to do the opposite rather than focusing on what message the government is trying to fashion.
