Our state is trying to manage an extraordinarily difficult period, we had a lot of early success but are facing significant organizing difficulties as time wears on. It's a huge and ongoing real-world crisis, not a good time for you to settle social media scores.

Calling Stancil a “tourist” when he’s spent weeks following ICE and putting himself in danger is just another example that all this criticism is downstream of online grievances.

there's fundamentally nothing different between treating will as less than a concerned longtime resident of minneapolis and republican herrenvolk bullshit about 'real americans' btw

One other thing: if you DO NOT LIVE IN MINNESOTA, and are NOT AFFECTED BY THIS AT ALL, and you think it's a good and productive to come in here and gloat and stir chaos and dunk on someone you dislike from the internet, maybe think a little harder about what you're doing and when you're doing it.
Okay, I'm now hearing reports of other locals being removed from Minnesota rapid response for interacting with press, as well as some "organizers" instituting onerous screening processes to join these networks.

It's time for local leaders to step in. These policies are incredibly counterproductive.

This is insane. ICE is out of control here, still. They must leave.
happening this morning in Minneapolis -- ICE agents drawing guns on observers. I reiterate again that it is only a matter of time before DHS kills more innocent people in Minnesota. Congress needs to shut this shit down right now.

This sort of activism speak makes my skin crawl these days. You can just feel how long it was workshopped by a working group and how little it manages to actually say. If you asked me what this organization actually does based on this information I could not tell you.
Ugh. The main anti-ICE group in Washington which has 44k followers on Facebook and has been going around to communities promoting classes is now promoting this anti-whistle nonsense for "harm reduction" reasons as well.

See the thing is I don’t like ICE and I like lighting things on fire, so the way it will help is…what was the question again?
i guess i would like to hear the theory on which setting fire to a random dumpster advances the cause of stopping ice

"what are you actually accomplishing?" is a surprisingly difficult question for many people to answer.

like i think at least some people, in the name of unity and solidarity, adopt a "no enemies to the left" position... which is, predictably, easily exploitable by wreckers and opportunists and entryists

I am being asked to raise the alarm BY locals. Many normal members of these networks do not agree with the security theater approach.
Why don't you trust locals Will?

Weird how only "the guy i already have unrelated ideological beef or just find annoying" is the only one who somehow threatens opsec relative to all the major media cameras recording the exact same thing who have infinitely bigger audiences and would cave infinitely faster to a subpoena anyway

You wake up this morning and think "yeah, I think I'll risk jail by punching somebody," there is no shortage of ICE stormtroopers in the streets for you to assault, and you pick Will Stancil

You chose your target because you are a little bitch who isn't actually about that life.

Over time people more interested in "organizing" than fighting ICE have moved in, and the result has not been good. I've heard reports of local networks struggling to find enough observers even as they screen people out. A recommitment to those initial principles is badly needed.

Local and state leaders know all of the above. Almost to a person, our leaders have encouraged the public to participate in observation and to monitor ICE activity. This is not really possible if monitoring ICE becomes an arduous affair necessitating a lot of spycraft.

I'm not entirely sure what has led the anonymous admins of these networks to begin treating them as guerrilla cells, but it is contrary to their purpose, contrary to their effective functioning, and ironically gives greater credence to ICE's claims that they are somehow an illicit conspiracy.

The openness ensured that they had massive coverage, as tens of thousands of neighbors joined. This meant more eyes on the street, more responders. It also made them useful tools, a free public utility for understanding how much ICE activity is in your neighborhood. Without them, paranoia reigns.

The rapid response networks DO NOT WORK if they are secretive, closed-off affairs. From the very beginning, they operated on the assumption that they are open, unvetted, and likely to contain both press and feds. This was fine - nothing illegal happens on them, it's simply reports of activity.

This is an extremely clarifying comment: these people think that this is somehow their war and they’re mad that regular folks are fighting it. That’s not what’s happening. Minnesotans are rallying to ensure their neighbors can’t be stolen in secret. It’s not even ideological.

Yes, the demand here in Minneapolis is not for total war against police, or for revolution. It is that ICE, which is ruining this city, leave immediately, so we can go back to our lives.

That’s the reason for the scale of the opposition and its unanimity. The problem is simple; so is the solution.
I think this post really exemplifies the liberal mindset.

The liberals see the evil actions of the state and want it to stop affecting them and their community.

They want to return to the days of regular police with judicial warrants disappearing these people, not the disappearing apparatus gone.
