True story: I only made a Torment Nexus because nobody warned me not to.
I was very disappointed when I discovered that the moral of Don't Create the Torment Nexus was that the Torment Nexus is good actually and creates loads of shareholder value

D - vibes alone. I like the slight inward (downward?) curve of it, like a claw for my dinner but civilized.

Tell me which one you’re choosing and why - real reasons or absolute BS are both encouraged!

(I added the red text, but OP doesn’t appear to be on BS to tag. Their info is in the image.)

This is so good!!
Surprise: SOMEONE YOU CAN BUILD A NEST IN is Audible deal of the day! Just 2.99 for the saga of a shapeshifting monster who *accidentally* falls in love with the woman who's hunting her.

I adore Carmen Rose's narration on this book. She gives my monster such a voice! www.audible.com/pd/Someone-Y...

This response from @sbearbergman.bsky.social to @hildur.bsky.social’s post has changed my week— it is so wholesome, and human, and so the energy we all need right now. And Kerstin Langenberger, the naturalist who posted “I am on my way with the necessary equipment”? This woman is the hero we need.

I’m not even involved on the periphery of this, I only met the guy in passing once at barcon. But this is an EXCELLENT thread, very well said and informative.
Well, first up, my solidarity with Erin, and with all other people affected — and in hope of accountability.

But also, while this is about the actions of one individual, it’s also not *just* about that: it’s also about an industry climate that has enabled this. I want to talk a bit about that. 🧵

I hear there's "writing for money is impure" discourse today.

Look, kids. You deepen your understand this world by engaging with it. Not just looking at it. Your needs and struggles help you articulate your characters' needs and struggles.

Writing because you need money IS the real writing.

MFA programs are useful experiences for some writers. I don't have one and I get emails for advice from people in MFA programs all the time. The idea that anybody would trade the brilliance and track record Polk has for an MFA? Now that's laughable to me.
I wound up in a conversation about writing that went hostile when I said I didn’t have an mfa. my lack of formal education makes some people lose their minds when they try to bolt me into the hierarchy. Big vocabulary, good writer, no degree? Obviously I stole this ability and don’t deserve it.

Psst:

Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders.

Pass it on.

honestly I think Cat Theramin is a genre of music that should be further explored

This.

It's not an exaggeration. Every legal argument that is being used to justify the claim that the state should be able to restrict access to gender-affirming care would apply in principle to a nearly limitless number of other areas of medicine.
