I love to torture myself seeking fine-grained understanding of events over which I have no control.
The USA and Germany are full partners in Israel’s crimes.

NGL, I love this film. It’s not great art but it’s deeply satisfying and totally true to the experience of playing ttrpgs.
If we lived in a just media landscape, this would now be a trilogy.

•Doctors vs. every movie where someone's nose bleeds as a sign they have a terminal illness
•Death metal fans vs. Turbulence 3

Spreading opposing talking views with no critical analysis or counter-arguments, or restating them first, helps them win.

But if you must, serve it inside George Lakoff's "Truth Sandwich" 🥪

- Start with the truth. The first frame gets the advantage.

- Indicate the lie.

- Return to the truth.

Wish folks wouldn't screen cap famously right-wing people saying egregious things on Twitter or repost same.

Because now you're the one saying it. Why spread their hateful language and ideas?

It pollutes the platform and frankly many people don't like it. Share your own thoughts and insights pls.

Now imagine the line for pedestrian and cyclist deaths as vehicle size increases.

alt-text: a graph of deaths per 10k 2-vehicle crashs shows line of 1st vehicle deaths going DOWN as its weight increases, and line of the other vehicle's deaths going sharply UP as the 1st vehicle's weight goes up.

Took me too long to realise that TikTok karaoke (words in the closed captioning highlighted as they're pronounced) serves the same purpose as a kid's finger tracking on a printed page. People are functionally illiterate.

Somalia’s representative at the United Nations had a history lesson to share with Israel’s envoy today. “To come to this place, and lecture us [on] humanity & genocide & human rights & independence & democracy. And we know what you’re doing on a daily basis. It’s just an insult.”

Nobody is claiming that a single 2% tax on assets over £10m is going to create a utopia. But it is a no-brainer for helping to reduce inequality. The fact that Labour refuse to even do the bare minimum is not the point of pride they seem to think it is.

Drew this Ghost band art for my wife. She's a huge fan. We're going to see them in January. I haven't been but this is her 3rd or 4th time, I'm not sure.

I go to about 1 concert every 5 years or something like that. It'll be fun!

More recently, the median liberal who doesn't know much about Palestine has gone from "Israel is a democracy and I guess that's good" to "I don't know who is right in the big picture but surely they didn't have to kill so many kids"
I always try to emphasize this: in the big picture, the median liberal, aka the kind of person who donates to ActBlue, or is a campaign volunteer, or who makes up part of one of many of the legacy liberal organizations, is to the left of the median liberal think tanker or Congressman on Palestine.
The latter very feverishly thinks Israeli ultranationalism is just plainly good and that Palestinians should suffer under it for eternity and also that the US should for whatever reason underwrite this arrangement with its full soft and hard power

When I see people tweeting about how they tried to like Bluesky and just couldn’t (which is pretty frequent these days) I assume that’s the crushing weight of guilt for propping up a violently misogynistic, white supremacist platform speaking

the thing that perplexes me is i just moved from twitter to here and didn't change anything.

i post here the same as i did there. i use bsky like i used twitter.

the only difference is i don't have to deal with so much bad faith trolling or bigoted abuse etc.

but my actual usage is the same.
I’m sure a lot of people genuinely don’t like Bluesky and very well may have valid reasons for it, but the faux “I tried” attitude is giving “I’m weak and I know it”

I was at Claire Danes’s Halloween party because reasons and I went as Hunter Thompson and was wearing dark aviators at night as a result. So when I was introduced to her I could only see, to quote Buster Bluth, a brown area with points - couldn’t tell you what her costume was.

A million years ago on a subway in Toronto once, I saw a guy holding an air conditioner and turned to my friend and whispered “look at Michael Cera with his sad little air conditioner”.

The guy looked up having heard me anyway and gave me a dirty look. It was 1000% actually Michael Cera.

I’m low-key obsessed with debunking the propaganda on terrorism. Calling non-terrorists terrorists and vice-versa for political reasons doesn’t make it a meaningless term. Most of us have a good intuition about why the word exists and recognise it when it’s done to our people. It’s *not* arbitrary 🧵
