This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

Okay #heatedrivalry fic rec thread. 🧵

In no particular order but maybe with runs of tropes or themes I’ve already encountered that are really hitting the spot.

Unbelievably, #DuvetKnowItsChristmas generates such good will on social media that over the years we've raised somewhere approaching a quarter of a million quid for homeless charities. If you can spare a bob or two, sling some to Centrepoint, and here's the link: www.gofundme.com/f/duvet-know...

This is the 15th year of #DuvetKnowItsChristmas, which is preposterous. Rules: if you find yourself dealing with unusual / claustrophobic / gaudy sleeping arrangements this Christmas Eve, share a picture with the world. Use the hashtag (with capitalisation) and cc me if you can be bothered.

The Governess Affair is the first novella of Courtney's I ever read and it absolutely spun me.

This is one of our genre's core works. The exploration of agency and consent after trauma should be (and is!) studied in classrooms.

If you yell HAIRPINS and folks freak out, they know.

And it's free!
He's been ordered to get rid of her by fair means or foul.
The start of the acclaimed Brothers Sinister series.

Incredibly useful and relevant information!
okay, in case you are like me from three days ago, i.e., you sort of know you're supposed to tip your mail carrier at Christmas, but you don't know how or how much money to give them, here is the information I have accrued from my friend who is a mail carrier

today the building engineering team is hauling away the old dishwasher and then I’ve got the mitigation company coming to assess water damage.

I am grateful for how wonderful everyone has been to us throughout this process. I just wish it wasn’t happening. that LotR meme. you know the one.
dealing with the insurance and the plumber and the neighbors and building management today and I just don’t wanna 😭

It’s also the 65th anniversary of Stephen Spender having dinner with Edith Sitwell, and her telling him how she answered letters she considered stupid

honestly v understandable
So, unhappy 346th anniversary of the night the first poet laureate John Dryden got the shit kicked out of him up a dark Covent Garden alley because he’d written a satirical poem. Mind you, when you see some of the poem...

such astute analysis of what makes these kinds of mysteries great!

our weekend viewing of Wake Up Dead Man got derailed by a plumbing disaster, but I can’t wait to settle in.
The thing the Benoit Blanc movies get so right, that many mysteries now do not, is the core social allegory. The fundamental underpinning of the Golden Age, Agatha Christie-style mystery is a set of characters living in a co-created fantasy world, ignoring the rot that is already present.

on my christmas list for sure
And another thing. I need them to release a Heated Rivalry DVD. I need it in a format that can’t ever be taken away. Preferably with director’s commentary, deleted scenes, extended cuts, bloopers, the whole shebang.

Mmmm do NOT like to be woken up with a call at 2:30am from the lobby to open for maintenance bc the dishwasher has flooded and apparently the exit line leaked down three floors???

HR do 4 spoilers

when Yuna says, “honey, we don’t want you to lie, that’s not who you are,” and the look on Shane’s face right on the heels of That Scene with Ilya

hit me right in the queer feelings 😩

Some excellent close reading here by Gav — I often wonder how much of the insidious cultural homophobia portrayed in HR escapes viewers who are straight and/or have minimal knowledge of the insular world of elite ice hockey, especially in North America.
I wrote about the narrative importance of the sex scenes in Heated Rivalry, how this reflects the magic of romance novel storytelling, and how the plot is fuelled by a genuinely bleak view of homophobia in hockey culture.

(Spoilers for ep 4!)
On Heated Rivalry, Sex Scenes Do the Talking
The hockey romance series offers a clear counterargument to complaints about gratuitous sex scenes on screen
