The U.K., which controls some territories in the Caribbean, operates an intelligence network in the area. In a major break between longtime allies, it has stopped sharing this intelligence with the U.S. government. trib.al/8CtoMyu

We talk about AI all the time, and sadly a lot of what we say is nonsense, hyperbolic or myopic.
What we need is for a confident BBC to commission a deep dive from @fryrsquared.bsky.social. Who better to distill the essence of the maths, facts, opportunities and risks?

Largely the world has been looking away from Sudan’s genocide. Countless dead in a brutal war waged on civilians, barely seen on our screens and without any public outcry or protest.
The world must not look away from the genocide in Sudan.

Today I always think of two people in particular. My grandfather, who barely survived WWI having contracted assorted illnesses while serving with the Jewish Legion in the Jordan Valley. Also my grandmother’s cousin Barnett Schiff, aged 19 killed in France in 1917, memorialised in Arras.

This is so good. My daughter put this on her phone while she and I were cleaning in my later mother’s house yesterday. It was stunning, and exactly the sort of thing Mum would want her granddaughter to pay attention to.

Here is the primary point of the EU. It’s about peace. And peace brings prosperity.
And fools like Truss wandered around calling Macron the enemy.

Indeed. Supranationalism (which is NOT repeat NOT the same as federalism) was the point from the very beginning.
And why? So France and Germany would never be at war again.
People who call that small can, respectfully, p*ss off.
(Also glad for people like David who explain this stuff.)

One thing I am exploring in what I am writing is how the UK treated EEC/EU as an international organisation while all along it was a supranational entity.
And the supranationalism was there from even before the EEC, in the ECSC.

I agree here, and this is why I think Labour shouldn’t pander to Reform policy (which may be an oxymoron).
I predict Reform’s polling will collapse before the next election, the hard-right populism bubble will burst before then
And I think Farage knows it, hence he keeps talking up an early election, despite there being next to no chance of that happening
2029 is a long way away

Some must-watch TV from 1970. It’s worth noting that this series was commissioned by David Attenborough as controller golf BBC2 a couple of years earlier.
Dad worked for the BBC and I recognise some of the names in the credits from his retirement book from 1985.
