Glad we made this decision today

I know colleagues, the government and other organisations think they will be ceding ground and an important public discussion space if they leave X

It has been twisted too far into an unsafe, malign and destructive tool to morally use, & thereby endorse, anymore

Really looking forward to this weeks evidence session about the challenges Black people face in accessing housing and experiencing homelessness

The last session on this was very powerful
We're taking evidence on Black homelessness on Wednesday 7 January at 2.20pm.

We're questioning @allymcgovern.bsky.social, Minister for Local Government and Homelessness after hearing from organisations working with homeless people.

The Government coming off X is the bare minimum and realistically at this point I think we should seriously be looking at taking enforcement action against the company, in line with the Online Safety Act and VAWG Strategy. I will be pressing the Government on this when Parliament returns next week.

There is, to my mind, no justification for the continued use by the UK Government of X as a platform for official comms. There hasn't been for some time, in fact, but if the latest developments around AI-generated image abuse and CSAM don't change the policy I really don't know what will.

Musk’s platform is proving itself a vile cesspit: its AI generating sexually explicit images of children is horrifying.

Every day we tolerate this, we weaken our democracies and endanger our future.

X/grok creating and platforming sexually explicit material of children isn’t just a lapse, it’s criminal.

Elon Musk and his companies should be held to account.

It’s been over a year since I dumped X. It was the right decision then and even more so now. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Grok Posts Sexual Images of Minors After ‘Lapses in Safeguards’
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot Grok said “lapses in safeguards” led to the generation of sexualized images of minors that it posted to social media site X.

Sheesh it’s cold outside here. Gone back inside into the living-room for more champers and maybe a hot chocolate

Saying farewell to my Dad along with 2025, it was an intense one, but very ready for 2026 now its here. Happy New Year everyone!

Actually scratch that. It is going to take an hour and a half just to set up the board for this one. Remembering the rules could be a lot longer!

Finally the extendable leaf of last year’s dining room table proves its worth. Now for that bit in the Christmas board game cycle where we spend an hour and a half misremembering the rules before even getting started

The ham’s roasted, the cake is decorated, all other jobs done. Only two episodes of Box of Delights left to watch, tried two new festive cocktails, just listening to Britten’s St. Nicholas cantata and I’m chilling in a bath with a Lush bath-bomb doing its thing.

Not too shabby overall for today

I’m 51, had a fairly full on life so far and wound up as a bloody Member of Parliament of all things. Trust me I’d better have earned the right to show my age by now, and also be uncool or otherwise as required

There’s still so much more to do in 2026. But together we will make it happen.

This is great. Paul and all the doorkeepers really are fantastically kind and skilled, managing our nonsense with the right level of humour and cool

Till I got there, I hadn’t grasped how many thousands of visitors there in Parliament each day. It takes quite some machine for it to run so smoothly
Senior doorkeeper Paul Kehoe helps keep the magic of Parliament running behind the scenes 🎅✨

Paul has worked in the House of Commons since he was 19 years old, for more than 46 years

Rather excellent thread

Let’s be very clear here. This is exactly why it was exceptionally unwise of the Supreme Court to wade into this space using ‘biological sex’ as a defining concept, because as soon as you talk to actual biologists the simple binary unravels. Not a stable basis for law.
Hey, fellow evolutionary biologists:

If you support trans rights, like, comment, or repost this. I want to show that transphobes like Richard Dawkins are a loud minority that does not represent our community
And that’s a follow.

Actually I do have a question if you have a sec.

Without exception the most transphobic group of scientists I’ve run into online are evolutionary biologists. Every single one of them has expressed the same opinion: transness cannot be anything other than social contagion. Why?

I’ve had to finish listening to the Wrath of Khan soundtrack first, cos I couldn’t stop that mid-flow

At least it is only two hospital visits, a police meeting and wear my wrist out signing Christmas cards. Easier than yours to be sure

Now what is this autopen the Americans keep going on about?
