Huntington's disease successfully treated for the first time #SomeGoodNews

The new treatment is a type of gene therapy given during extended brain surgery. Data shows the disease was slowed by 75% in patients, so the decline you'd normally expect in one year would take four years after treatment.

Watching Wild London, and seeing the famous Hither Green flock of parakeets. @ottoenglish.bsky.social has written about the urban myth Jimi Hendrix released them. The other myth, mentioned by David Attenborough, equally romantic; they escaped from the filming of The African Queen.

If you use Apple Pay/Google Pay on your phone, please take a moment to read about the digital wallet fraud con trick. This explains how to recognise the con and what to do. Tl;dr - never trust calls from the bank, ring them.

This is going to be our Christmas leftovers meal from now on. Next year we’ll save enough to add an “octopus wiener”-style PIB, a deep fried panko-ed stuffing ball and shredded sprouts.
Christmas dinner turkey ramen:

Shio tare
Turkey stock
Pickled sesame carrots
Shredded endive
Sticky soy ginger parsnips
Charred sansho-spiced edamame and corn
Spicy turkey thigh
Ramen eggs
Toasted nori

Your fact of the day:

The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in six American citizens suffers a food-borne illness annually. In the UK, the figure is one in 132.

I don't really think the idea that a president can do what he wants in terms of attacking another country does anything to deter Russia or China.

Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch have so far said nothing. Nigel Farage reckons illegal military action to cause regime change in Venezuela "might be a good thing". Might not agree with Ed Davey on eveeything, but this statement from him is much needed.

Serious consideration needs to be made about leaving that site.
It's dangerous.
I know you said you need to be where the constituents can reach you, but this place is free to join, so there's really no excuse for any decent MP now, no matter the party.

Under every government or ministerial post I've seen is an avalanche of childish pejoratives and endless racism, xenophobia, misogyny and other bigotry. If they think they're spreading a message they're utterly deluded. It's just a sewer.

Chief political commentator doesn't understand a basic statement from Mamdani. He means using long words, sophistry, polite phraseology & grammatically correct English allows awful people to present bigotry without the cruelty of the result of their bigotry being a matter of public criticism.
