People come to the UK on a student visa and then claim asylum once here to avoid going back.

I guess the changes being planned to the asylum system would make claiming asylum less attractive compared to other approaches of getting finding work after studying.

Another interesting graph is this one, showing the top nationalities of people claimaing asylum.

The spike from Albania - the UK system was widely abused by criminal gangs to smuggle people here.

There is also some evidence of abuse of student visas causing the spike from Pakistan.

I don't have the answer to that, but I believe it is what the Home Sec is trying to tackle.

So that we in the UK take our fair share, but not an excessive share, & that others take their share too.

And if you don't like her plans, what alternatives do you have to change the trend in the data?

I have seen the Home Secretary put out a statement claiming that asylum claims in the UK are rising while they are falling across Europe.

So I've looked for some data and this is what I found for the EU and the UK.

The UK has about 2.5% of asylum claims across the EU back in 2015.

Climate change is here and worsening exponentially. People who live south of the Meditterranean, or even Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece (and others) will find crops failing due to high temps, water becoming scarcer, wildfires destroying vast areas. Those people will have to move, or die. They will

We've become so fixated on bluster, bombast, performative politics, fine empty words, daily social media posts, big dramatic announcements with knobs and whistles and glittery bits that we forget those who work hard in the background who're solid, dependable, trustworthy, clever and diligent. Shame.

This is a legitimately good idea. Studies show that heavy metal fans tend to be the least angry people. Presumably because their brains experience anger a lot, but in safe, controlled, voluntary ways, so they have a lot more practice dealing with it, but fewer upsetting incidents that triggered it.

Brexit was an op. It's all coming out now.
Temerko, a Soviet-born oligarch and a major Conservative donor, told Belton that he and Johnson spent time… plotting the overthrow May. According to Temerko, Johnson had finally been persuaded to back Brexit in 2016 by a group of “eastern European businessmen”.
