There is a difference between people who see the goal as electing Democratic politicians and people who see the goal as trying to stop the violence against our neighbors and friends.

There is, we hope, significant overlap between the two goals.

I need people who were wrong about everything to actually look back and recognize that there was a reason they were wrong and maybe they need to update their understanding of the world.

Otherwise they don't really think they were wrong.

I am the type of person who is going to pour far more hours of research into writing something commonplace and contemporary than I ever am about like geopolitics or topography.

This probably says something about me.

I'm not asking for reform because arguing on paper about what ICE has to do is not the fucking point, because--and this is important--they are not following the fucking paper.

I said "abolish" and I did not stutter, because if fascists goons can take over every four years, there is no paper reform.

I'm not sure Democrats in D.C. are aware that their base's rage against ICE has reached a level of blinding white-hot intensity.

They're worried about "looking weak" for voting "against law enforcement" when they should be worried a mob of housewives is going to come beat them to death if they do.

Some fucking DARVO platonic ideal
Bovino shamelessly lies: "This looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement"

Everyone around the country is panicking about the weather, and I'm chilling in the upper Midwest like "It's just a little cold; it's not snowing or anything. Please chillax."

Everyone located elsewhere, feel free to do whatever. You're in a much worse situation than, "Eh, it's a bit below zero."

I get that there are some people who are afraid that if we don't stand together as a party, we'll somehow lose in the midterms.

Yes, but ICE is casually murdering people in the streets and kidnapping kids. Norms are designed to be challenged in these moments. Challenge them.

Males in most species are all brightly colored and flamboyant to attract mates, but modern day humans have somehow created a dominant culture (at least in the anglosphere) of the most boringly dressed dudes because colors are feminine now.

If you’re an elected official, talking about reforming ICE should be instantly disqualifying. I don’t want to hear one goddam thing about electoral strategy

There is no excuse anymore, not that there was before. You don’t reform death squads

Humidity. Humidity come back from the war. Please. It’s so dry here I’m dying.

Y’know how mass shooters keep trying to escalate to be the biggest and worst for their fifteen minutes of fame and some kind of evil record even if they’re dead?

Getting that feeling from ICE.

You know those weird people who don't seem to know how to do anything without ChatGPT even though they did just fine three years ago?

That's my parents with Location Sharing.

Picked my parents up from O'hare today. It's, of course, cold here, but not...remarkably cold, really. -10 or so.

My parents Did Not Have Winter Coats.

Shades of every single time growing up they told me to put a jacket on because it was 65 are haunting me.

Hey APub authors who have Amazon works on the rights list--this could give you a LOT more money out of the Anthropic settlement.
HEY APub AUTHORS!!!

Amazon has put up a form where they (non legal terminology) sign over their half of any anthropic settlement money to you. Obvs I can not give anyone legal advice, but check this out. This could give you 2x the money.

For any unions participating, this is unequivocally 100% an illegal strike.

Generally speaking, formal job action by unions is prohibited while a contract is in effect - strikes are only allowed once a contract expires (unfair labour practice strikes exist too but I'm trying to keep this simple)

For people asking “why isn’t there a general strike?” earnestly, and not just to be a judgmental prick
Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since.

That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

I've talked to people on the ground about the strike here tomorrow, and the single thing everyone brings up is just how shockingly wide the support for the strike is. Businesses that no one would have expected to support it are doing so.

Walked into a door while holding a box in front of me last night (was putting the box away) so hard I have bruises today.

It wasn't like I was running. Why. How. What the hell.

And we are not "centering whiteness" by honoring folks like John Brown or Viola Liuzzo. They counted the cost and laid down their lives for the struggle just like one of my great-grandfathers did.

This is why we need A People's History of Humanity (Zinn) instead of the propaganda and lies.
