While we're at it, why do we pay for a fire department when most houses don't even burn down.

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

The arrogance of a Senator who is not even running again to take the lead in undermining the Caucus and the voters.
Shaheen: So let me be clear. No one in the senate chamber wants to extend the ACA tax credits more than I do.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

One small thing that jeopardizes any claim NYC might have to the "Greatest City in the World" title is that there's both a Jets game and a Giants game on tv here every week for the entire football season.

I read right past the ‘rescued a child’ (from slavery) and assumed we were talking about Din Djarin…😲
yes! a cult rescued a child from slavery (good on them for the rescue), inducted him into the cult with minimal justification and in violation of their own procedures, and then put him in the military

like, if that really happened we would be really mad at the Jedi, and for good reason

Caving on a deal that doesn’t fix health care is, and always has been, a giant betrayal of the American people.

Hold the line. Save health care. I’m a NO on anything that doesn’t extend ACA subsidies.

Suggestion:

Even if your senators are not on the list, call them and tell them how much you support their decision to hold steady. It will have an impact. The overwhelming response will make its way to everyone they know.

Word of mouth is very effective.
Here's a partial list of suspected guilty parties. Call them if they're your senators, friends, right now.

blacksky.community/profile/did:...
John Fetterman, Angus King, Maggie Hassan, Dick Durbin, Jon Ossoff, Jeanne Shaheen, Kirsten Gillibrand, Catherine Cortez Masto, Mark Warner, Cory Booker, and of course Chuck Schumer. Maybe others not top of mind. Not all responsible will publicly vote for the cave - that's not how this works.

The fact that slightly less convenience in air travel broke their resolve is foul.
Let me get this right… a sufficient number Senate Democrats appear to be willing to reopen government to alleviate air travel for upper & upper-middle income people at the expense of access to healthcare for lower income people. Yes?

Maggie Hassan (N.H.)
Sens. Jacky Rosen (Nev.),
Tammy Baldwin (Wis.), Mark Kelly (Ariz.),
Jon Ossoff (Ga.),
Gary Peters (Mich.) Dick Durbin (Ill.)

the Democrats who are are considered by R's as possible “yes” votes for the deal.
Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

yes. Machine learning uses the same *physical computational structures* that LLMs do, it runs on GPUs, and it is demonstrably valuable and insightful. LLMs are a particular kind of machine learning structure that's been weirdly productionalized but their flaws do not apply to all ML.
