Lawyer. Recovering CISO. Still optimistic but it’s not getting any easier. Views my own, g-d knows nobody else wants to claim them. Skeets definitely not legal advice. Currently clean on OPSEC.

I’m writing this as a sort of time capsule because tomorrow, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States. The things I am writing here are true today, and I hope will remain true for the next four years. 1/x

Journalists need to ask, “What made Pettri a ‘suspect’?” He was ‘seized’ under the meaning of the Fourth Amendment, which requires *probable cause that he was committing a crime*

MAKE THEM ARTICULATE THE BASIS FOR THE SEIZURE
BASH: Where did he assault an officer? It looked to us that he was approached by them when he was helping another individual who was pushed down

BOVINO: We don't need a suspect's help in a law enforcement scene

BASH: So when somebody is pushed down, you stand back?

BOVINO: Follow directions

Why is no one in Congress questioning how Trump's net worth has grown by the billions since he retook office, yet the US posting record deficits?

It's not a difficult question.

A reminder - before Trump, MAGA, Musk and Fox rewrote history - that this is what the entire country agreed had happened five years ago today:

So much for the “most transparent administration ever” era.
In Sep EOIR suddenly changed policy on virtual access to hearings, restricting non-party observation to in-person-only, at the same time wardens of (often remote) detention centers are inventing new pre-clearance reqs and "security concerns" to refuse physical access to the public courts inside.

I'll think I'm used to seeing men wield sexual violence as a tool to reinforce their power, but it still manages to take my breath away. That's how I felt reading Epstein's letter to Larry Nassar about Trump. It's so transparent. So sick and twisted. And it's tolerated by far too many.

Again, if you write code with AI, you can see if the code compiles. If you write a legal filing with AI, you find out if it works when opposing counsel and/or the court tries to take your head off.
HAHAHAHAHAHA

HAHAHAHAHA

HAAAA

said it once, I'll say it a thousand times: legal research and drafting generative AI is not fit for the purpose
Finally, the lawyers were like “oh my god, I don’t know how this could possibly happen, we never make mistakes like this.”

But after they got busted in THIS case, they then went and filed corrections in one of their OTHER cases after they realized that fuckery was happening.

If Juan Orlando Hernández was a poor fisherman accused without evidence of transporting illegal drugs by boat, the Trump Admin might blow him and his crew up without a trial. But because JOH is a former president of Honduras who shares Trump’s right-wing politics, he received a presidential pardon.
Trump’s Pardon of Honduran Ex-President Who Conspired to Traffic Over 400 Tons of Cocaine Into US Exposes ‘War on Drugs’ Myth - Bucks County Beacon
Why would the U.S. government engage in such vicious attacks against civilians in the name of blocking drug trafficking while releasing one of the most known, convicted drug traffickers in the Western...

Looking forward to President Ocasio-Cortez expanding the Court to 15 and reading pissy dissents by Roberts and Kavanaugh for all the days they walk this cursed earth.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

this is definitely the optimal use case for Bernie Sanders
Sanders: Let’s be clear… If this vote succeeds, over 20 million Americans are going to see at least a doubling in their premiums… if resolution is passed tonight, we are on a path way to throw 15 million Americans off of medicaid and the affordable care act, 15 million.

This is a great thread. The only way out is through, and no matter how you slice that, it’s going to be incredibly painful for a lot of people who deserve better.
I think what the "we must make sure nothing upsets or discomfits the smol bean middle American" side of this debate misses is that there are huge quantities of human misery and death down both of these paths and all we are doing now is deciding upon whom that misery settles, and when.
