The purposes of immigration jail are "supposed" to be 1) make sure ppl show up for court hearings; 2) protect public. It is not a criminal sentence. When govt arrests ppl who are not dangerous at court hearings, they prove it's about punishment. That's illegal. www.latimes.com/california/s...

In Sep EOIR suddenly changed policy on virtual access to hearings, restricting non-party observation to in-person-only, at the same time wardens of (often remote) detention centers are inventing new pre-clearance reqs and "security concerns" to refuse physical access to the public courts inside.

I think this is right. Reality of chain-of-command & enlistment contracts kind of cap reasonable expectations for individual agency

National Guard is not ICE. This is not what they volunteered to do, but they have to follow orders and so far the orders are mostly to stand around doing not much of anything.

Separately, what was the story with immediately sending so many of the people FHP and BP scooped up in the operation last week to CO specifically? Bed space in SoFla does seem pretty constrained right now, but why CO? Did they clear out a bunch of space at Aurora in advance just for this purpose?
