Was reading one of these in FLSD last week, and in an eleven-page opinion the entirety of four pages was just citations of cases since July calling (I assume) bullshit on Hurtado/the preceding policy?

@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social always seems busy so not sure how long the interview has been in the pipeline, but re: @mattcameron.bsky.social's aside on Webex EOIR observation, flagging their updated "fact sheet" purporting to limit the IJ links to parties only:

Default assumption is at least some of this has to be people trying to wedge this, and will probably force myself to listen to a "Tim Dillon Show" at some point for any context.

But after his supposed "evolution" in response to advocacy, he's been making it hard this year not to be cynical about it

I know you have to make some concessions to running in Ohio, but this seems a bit excessive IMHO.

No, I know, even down to the ~noon-1pm window.

But the ADS-B track today on C2714...one of these is not like the others, right?

Like I said, probably just noise, but kind of weird. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I guess DeSantis's CA11 judge will be reinstating that injunction pending an EIS any minute now, huh?

Two and a half months after ICE and Florida decided to make their camp in the Everglades a functional blacksite, after multiple lawsuits and innumerable suffering families and frustrated representatives, it looks like they decided to turn the ODLS switch back on overnight.

Looks like a modest update in the system tonight, fwiw.

Not at all a comment on how similarly abhorrent to expect BCI towards the people inside, but I guess at least bodes a bit better for it not being quite the blackhole that the Everglades has been.

Going to print this out on a big cue card and hold it up in the back row of immigration courtrooms.

"If the Federal Defendants ultimately decide to approve that request and reimburse Florida for its expenditures related to the Facility, they may need to first conduct an EIS."

Jesus christ, not just 287(g)-related expenses, the entire compensation, including overtime.
September 2, 2025 at 8:18 PM
OK, no, seriously, why does a state attorney's office have a (pending) Task Force Model 287(g)?
August 24, 2025 at 4:59 AM
Another one of these (C2705) is on the ground in the Everglades right now.

Transfers out of the camp have been much faster and more numerous than transfers in since mid-August, usually to detention and deportation hubs in Texas before returning to Alexandria, LA.

How does one describe a litigation strategy whose facts in support change with each filing?

"Protean" is the word stuck in my mind, for whatever reason.

Oh come on.

FWIW

But AFAICT still seems to be primary destination for direct ICE arrests down here last ~2 weeks (not sure about 287(g) LEAs, which are probably the much bigger share overall), AND people seem to be getting transferred out more quickly than the first 2 months, so #'s may be fluid for a while?

What an ODLS entry looks like right now for detainees at Fort Bliss, in case it's helpful for folks (the phone number they provide certainly isn't).
August 17, 2025 at 8:30 PM
ICE "managed" COVID during heights of pandemic by transferring sick people from facility to facility, spreading to vulnerable people stuck in detention.

Just as reports from Everglades camp suggest (possibly intense) respiratory illness, seeing biggest transfer out to date these past few days.

Thinking about stories like this every time someone praises Sheinbaum and Morena for "standing up" against Trump and inhumane US immigration policy.
August 11, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Was actually trawling CourtListener just now to see if there had yet been instances of detained parolees/former parolees getting released based on the CHIRLA decision from last Friday, and sure enough...

It is kind of...something that the high school within those two blocks is notable for having a magnet "academy" in..."Homeland Security". 😐

Appreciate this story making the distinction between Title 32 activation and federalization, which some reporting has been vague about.

FWIW, FLNG has been operating under ICE (under 287(g)?) for at least a month now; saw unit patches for 50th RSG and 83rd TC driving detention vans for Miami ERO.
