If DOJ lawyers come back to court and say "we asked but Bukele said no," the Trump admin will look weak. "A foreign leader whom the US is paying millions of dollars to detain migrants for the US told us to bugger off" is not credible and is a sign of weakness.

@schnorkles.bsky.social this to me sounds like what happened that led to the current mess. That schumner did not have a proper plan b in place in the event House GOP got the CR passed.
Thinking about this more...the one thing that might explain what Senate Dems have been up to is if it absolutely didn't occur to them that House Republicans might unify behind a CR. If that's actually what happened, yeah, that's gross negligence and incompetence by the Senate Dem leadership.
