I will never forgot how Ozturk could have been a statistic in ICE deaths because her asthma medicine was withheld from her.
An immigration court dropped its case against Turkish graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk, a little less than a year after federal agents arrested her on a street near Tufts University

For billionaires, attacking DEI also creates a new set of allies. It gets blue collar workers (especially White men) to side with billionaires rather than against them, by fueling blue collar workers' anger at the fact that they didn't benefit from efforts to expand access to white collar prosperity

As these teens describe, AI can diminish human relationships; devalue art; threaten the environment; lead to laziness; give unreliable results; pose privacy concerns; and be misused.

So, please, stop with the narratives of inevitability and let's embrace a pedagogy and politics of refusal.
7 Reasons Teens Say No to AI
Some young people only turn to artificial-intelligence chatbots as a last resort, citing concerns about relationships, creativity, the environment and more.

The complicity of Latino men…

What was maybe once a choice you could pass off as economic self interest is now solely a decision to be complicit in state-sanctioned violence.
BREAKING: The two federal immigration agents who fired on Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti are identified in government records as Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez.

It's easy to see these men as individual bad apples. But I'd argue--the bigger problems are "elite" universities' look-the-other-way approach to dealing with big-name bad actors, and the fact that, societially, we let "elite" universities play such a big role in determining who can get ahead.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.

But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
The arrests of journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort are a test for every MSM member with a platform. If you are not voicing your outrage at this blatant violation of the First Amendment, you are utterly discredited as a journalist.

NEW: Liam Conejo Ramos, the 5-year-old who ICE agents in Minneapolis nabbed last week and shipped off to a Texas detention facility with his dad, is now in poor health, his school superintendent told me today www.huffpost.com/entry/liam-c...

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.

Wael died on Friday at age 30.

ICE caused his death.

They didn’t get to say goodbye.

It had been months since Wael Tarabishi seen his father. The family is calling on ICE to release Maher Tarabishi so he may attend his son's funeral.

“Border Patrol agents have deliberately stepped in the path of cars apparently to justify shooting at the drivers [in] 67 cases that resulted in 19 deaths.”

You can’t reform that culture.

Ross was in Border Patrol in this period (2007-2015).

I need people to wrap their minds around the fact that here in Minneapolis, ICE broke the window of a vehicle yesterday, pepper sprayed the occupants, and arrested them, and shot another observer in the face today, and OBSERVERS ARE STILL GOING OUT TO PROTECT THEIR NEIGHBORS AT MASSIVE PERSONAL RISK
I’m eating lunch, I’m having a panic attack, I’m charging my phone, and then I’m going back out to try and keep my neighborhood safe.

COVID killed >100,000 people per year over the course of 2023 and 2024 in the US alone.

The level of indifference to this massive annual toll among both the public and the majority of my public health colleagues is stunning.
