Lone Women is my most recommended book of the last couple of years. If you liked the pioneer women aspect but aren't wedded to the horror, you might also enjoy Molly Gloss's Oregon westerns. Hearts of Horses is stunning. The Jump-Off Creek too.

Funnily enough after making lunch I'm finding the linked page a hard read so I keep bouncing back here for the short, easy-to-read posts, then I come across this . . . 😂
RECOVER: 'RECOVER-NEURO clinical trial shares results of three non-drug treatments for cognitive symptoms of Long COVID'

'None of our rehabilitation approaches to treatment for cognitive Long COVID proved to be effective.'

I dare U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to rent one. I'd only rent one when the power's out — use it to heat the neighborhood.

it was an absolute pleasure to interview the brilliant and thoughtful @vajra.me, whose writing frequently leaves me floored. the le guin prize is so well deserved
Vajra Chandrasekera (@vajra.me)'s Rakesfall recently received the Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction. In this new interview, Senior Books Editor @cxorlando.bsky.social asks him the author about genre boundaries, violence in fiction, and how Le Guin has inspired his writing:

One more bump of this! We'd don't have to settle for a bill that does pretty good work. We can push for gold-standard protections.
URGENT Call to Action: The Senate version of the S.2696 is moving out of committee BUT this version does not include any protections for book creators and only contains weak first amendment protections. The timing is tight: please email your senator before Wednesday, Nov. 12! More info:

Not a dime to Democrats until Schumer is out.
Not a dime to any incumbent Democrat Senator who does not call for Schumer to resign as leader. (Which will mean not a dime to practically all of them.)

I'm serious, we NEED to organize massive protests tomorrow at Schumer's offices, this man cannot be trusted to hold office, period.

Not only is he not the right person for the moment, he is the WORST person for the moment. Riley, the old blind dog on my block, would have better political instincts.
Senate Democrats are meeting behind closed doors to discuss the emerging deal. “Stay tuned,” Schumer tells us with a grin.

It's funny -- you hear all the time that mainstream media tends to undercount protests. And then you really see it, because you were there, with @rvtrousdale.bsky.social. This is a _ridiculous_ headline from NBC Boston. The protest drew upwards of 500. www.nbcboston.com/video/on-air...
