Roger Whittaker just appeared on the Pandora Christmas channel and I am having an absolute 1970s flashback. I don't think i've heard him since '78 or so, anywhere.

The problem with reading The Dark Is Rising on the days of Christmas that it takes place, is having to stop reading for the day when the story moves on to the next day.

there are a lot of grand sweeping versions of O HOLY NIGHT but here's a minimalist one sung by 18 yr old Welsh baritone Cai Thomas:

this is a super interesting thread of nonfiction recommendations. The only one I've read is OATHBREAKERS which I thoroughly enjoyed, the others sound very intriguing
Some of the most gorgeous and interesting nonfiction books I’ve read this year.

First — Bonnie Lander Johnson’s Vanishing Lancscapes: The Story of Plants and How We Lost Them

I’ve never enjoyed a nonfiction book this much. I felt nostalgic for a time I never lived in. The world feels different now

every American needs to see this (which is only available b/c Canada) and every American needs to wonder why exactly Bari Weiss spiked this story. In a normal country there would be resignations and prosecutions because of abuses like this.
The full spiked 60 Minutes CECOT package, clean & subtitled. 1/5

last night watched my favorite Scrooge (1951), Alastair Sim, tonight will watch with Reginald Owen (1938). The Sim adaptation feels timely b/c there's a lot of barbs at unfettered capitalism in it

my family kind of laughs at how many adaptations of A Christmas Carol I am willing to watch

Explaining Mr. Rogers to kids who didn't grow up with him is a trip because he sounds like a political juggernaut.

When public pools were segregated, he put his feet in a kiddy pool with Officer Clemmens, a Black man.

He saved PBS by addressing senate.

He made his show accessible for blind kids.
