YOJIMBO is one of my favorite films of all time and Nakadai is so great in it.
RIP to a fucking legend of cinema

Nakadai was fantastic as Hanbei, the overconfident gun-wielding brother in YOJIMBO, and a dedicated police detective in HIGH AND LOW, just two films in a long and storied career (also RAN, KAGEMUSHA, THE HUMAN CONDITION trilogy). RIP, sir

this is just straight out cringe
they won't acknowledge why their sales are down
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

This is huge news in @cameronwilson.bsky.social's @thesizzle.com.au- Microsoft is being forced by the Aus regulator refund all the ultra-dodgy AI plan pushing it was doing for Office 365

Wild that other regions aren't also using regulatory power to punish Microsoft

AI is a tool in service of fascism and authoritarianism and we need to keep describing it as such
The long-running ideological war on libraries, education, and government workers is not separate from AI boosterism. It is the same ideological war on human knowledge and expertise. In some cases AI is being used to directly supercharge this effort:

we talk about political groupthink but here's corporate groupthink, all these brilliant execs in different companies talked themselves into thinking AI was going to drive constant growth and now they hear the sad trombone as they turn against each other
Deutsche Bank Is worried that it is too exposed to the AI bubble via lending for data center infrastructure. So it’s exploring shorting AI stocks as a hedge so that if the AI bubble pops they capture some upside versus being stuck with bad loans for half built data centers.
