"No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law". Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 of the U.S. Constitution.
Trump: "By the way, a friend of mine called us the other day and he said 'I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have because of the Democrat shutdown. I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have with the military.' Today, he sent us a check for $130 million. It's gonna go the military."

From my colleague @scottlincicome.bsky.social.
Argentina had once been among the world’s wealthiest nations devolved into a global laughingstock, with uncontrollable inflation, routine fiscal crises, rampant corruption, and crippling poverty. Peronism became a tale of how not to manage an economy.

6X bankrupt loser believes he's the genius.
America’s Perón
Decades of personalist rule turned Argentina into a global economic laughingstock. Donald Trump seems to have misunderstood the lesson.

Thread.
On the left: Nate Cavanagh, a 28-year-old DOGE staffer and college dropout.

On the right: Mohammad Halimi, a 53-year-old exiled Afghan scholar.

This is the story of how DOGE targeted Halimi on social media.

Then the Taliban took his family. 🧵

A terrorist targeted federal workers last week. There wasn’t much reporting on it. But I’m not finished thinking about it! 🧵

An anti-vaxxer fired more than 500 gunshots into CDC Atlanta, shattering 150 “blast-proof” windows on 6 buildings. Employees were pinned down in terror.

Just a heist of public funds. Why should Trump own it if taxpayers spent $1B on the retrofit?
Update: I offered the amendment. Not to refuse acceptance of the Qatari jet; just to prohibit Trump from taking it with him when he leaves office - after the taxpayers spend $1 billion to retrofit it.

Failed 14-15. Every single Republican voted to allow Trump to take the jet.
The fight against corruption has to be ceaseless.

Today in the Appropriations Committee, I will offer an amendment to prohibit the Qatari jet that was gifted to Trump (which is going to cost taxpayers $1 billion) from being transferred to him personally.

Stay tuned.

TRUMP: Instead, how about I convince Ghislaine Maxwell to make a statement saying I didn’t do anything wrong in exchange for a pardon

DEMOCRATS: That’s not the same thing

This is brutal but so spot on: “To help the putchists regain power, America’s highest court pretended the Constitution said things it clearly doesn’t, not just once, but twice.”
US law enforcement did take some steps to hold the coup conspirators accountable, but cautiously, prioritizing the head criminal’s supporters’ feelings.

To help the putchists regain power, America’s highest court pretended the Constitution said things it clearly doesn’t, not just once, but twice.

Since April 4, #SCOTUS has issued 15 rulings on 17 emergency applications filed by Trump (three birthright citizenship apps were consolidated).

It has granted relief to Trump ... in all 15 rulings.

It has written majority opinions in only 3.

Today's order is the 7th with no explanation *at all.*
Here we go again: Over an acerbic dissenting opinion by Justice Sotomayor (joined in full by Justices Kagan and Jackson), #SCOTUS, with no explanation, grants a stay in the Department of Education RIFs case—effectively clearing the way for the Trump administration to dismantle much of the agency:

There is no possible interpretation of the tax and spending clauses of the constitution where today's tax hikes are acceptable. Congress could not pass a law saying the President gets to raise income taxes whenever he wants to whatever he wants, and it didn't pass any such law regarding tariffs.

One way to read stories based on leaked docs: look at time from being circulated to docs getting published — bc that’s the amount of time it took to a) get someone pissed enough to agree to leak and b) get enough also-pissed people to confirm.

These are slides dated April 29-30, published May 1.
(AP) — Detailed Army plans for a potential military parade on President Donald Trump’s birthday in June call for more than 6,600 soldiers, at least 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, seven bands and possibly a couple thousand civilians, The Associated Press has learned.
