'S'my birthday weekend, so treated myself to steak frites and a cocktail for lunch, and now a box at the theatre.

This photo was taken in 1911 using glass plate technology by Herbert Ponting who was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition,

The composition and detail are exquisite with the band of white snow/ice creating a perfect frame around the two people and the ship in the distance

Iconic imo

Person getting on a train earlier with a huge pram.

A megatruck of a pram that could barely fit into the train, and people squeezing themeselves out of the way, until...

They realise that there isnt a baby in this McMansion on wheels, but a small pampered dog.

And suddenly, tollerance evaporated.

It’s Ernest’s birthday tomorrow.

Just thinking back to my chum Rob's Christmas party when he went round the room asking people what new experiences they had had in 2025, and all I had to contribute was that I tried braised celery for the first time and found that I liked it.

Ugh. The rain has got 15 minutes to finish its thing so that I can walk home without getting drenched. That said, I did have a major coleslaw spill at lunchtime, so these trousers need to go in the wash anyway.

Day 1: Well, let’s see if we can make this “internet” a tool for sharing ideas and empowering the citizens of the world.

Day 100: Er, It’s mostly chat about Buffy and Star Trek.

Day 27538: Oh wow, billionaires made a giant Paedo Etch a Sketch out of the internet and drained the oceans to do it.

Ugh, my French passport is due to expire this year, and it looks like applying to renew it has got much more complicated than when I did it ten years ago. Bugger.

Nadim Zahawi arrived in the UK from Iraq as a child refugee. His family claimed asylum once they were here. Today he has joined Reform who will stop all in country asylum applications. Under his new party, his own family fleeing persecution would be immediately deported.

Ugh, we've got a spreadsheet of naughty students with overdue books that need to be rung up and reminded, which I hate doing, but my lovely apprentice/volunteer is quite good on the phone so is working his way through it with aplomb.

obviously there are a lot of people who can't afford that but let's be honest, quite a lot of people out there definitely could just spend a quid or two extra if needed but will instead gloat about having found cheaper options on Amazon -and you can't have that *and* a thriving high street!

Big bro has shared this photo on the family WhatsApp, and I find it strangely pleasing. They've had snow (Vaud, Switzerland) and he and his Mrs went for a walk and were followed most of the way by a fluffy ginger cat.

I've had a lovely sfternoon with my chum Alex, making use of my afternoon tea voucher she got me for last year's b'day. Had a potter around the shops too, she bought some boots in John Lewis with her Christmas voucher. We had a couple of cocktails afterwards, natch.

I've done my [one week of] Dry January and am now having a cocktail and crisps and watching my glossy American medical melodrama. First work week back has seemed reeeeaaaalllly long.

As it's my b'day later this month, I get a free treat from Em and Ess. The choice was grapes, or Belgian truffles. I've obviously gone for the truffles, for entirely health-related reasons - HEAR ME OUT.

Organising a belated birthday lunch for next month with a regular gang of chums; have posted some suggestions on WhatsApp, and one has replied, "Personally, I would prefer the least expensive" which, given for HIS birthday we went to a pretentious + pricey Italian restaurant, I think is a bit rich.
