If you've never been to the brewery before, you may not know it's a bit of a museum. August Schell purchased this kettle in 1889 for $25000. Five years earlier he spent $5000 on his retirement home. Priorities, right?

Tomorrow Elon will have a post of places he's been that he didn't want to leave. She's living in his head rent free, and I'm here for it.

At seven p.m., a main hatchway caved in, he said
"Fellas, it's been good to know ya"

Can be used to describe both
My feed is roughly divided in two sections today:
• I want to set the Democratic Party on fire.
• The Edmund Fitzgerald.

TIL: "Since 1975, there haven’t been any major industrial wrecks on the Great Lakes."

That's amazing.

In a normal democracy, a total collapse of party leadership would result in an no-confidence vote and immediate snap elections to find leaders who can lead

That's a lot of writing to say "I'm a coward" but ok
I voted tonight to reopen the government and take action to protect health care for tens of millions of Americans. Here’s why:

The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

It's almost like many politicians don't necessarily have a set of values they stand for, they're simply after power. They'll go with whichever party allows them to gain that power.

Shout out to Norm Coleman!
Durbin is trash. Yes, lots of great stuff in the past. Sure he’s a decent guy. But he’s pure trash now. Important to see that the bulk of Team Cave is made up of people who are retiring.
Durbin is a YES on this deal: “At Democrats’ urging, today’s bill is not the same one we’ve voted down 14 times. Republicans finally woke up and realized their Groundhog Day needed to end. This bill is not perfect, but it takes important steps to reduce their shutdown’s hurt.”

Why I give a shit about what this ENABLER has to say in 2025 will remain a mystery to me. Same for all the other enablers.
Mike Pence: I don't believe the Constitution affords the President the authority to unilaterally impose tariffs on friend and foe, and I hope the Supreme Court turns that around.
Ultimately, American businesses and American consumers pay the tariffs.

Our offer is you don't give us our one singular demand we've insisted on this whole time, and also we'll make it easier for your most vulnerable members to say they voted for it anyway, so they can say that when we try to attack them over it. Brilliant strategy, guys.

Whatever else is in the deal, agreeing to merely have a vote on ACA is a fig leaf. Even if it passes the Senate, it won't in the House, which also makes it an easy yes vote for the Senate Rs who might want to, defusing it as an attack on them.

It is a stupid ask even on Team Schumer's own terms.

Institutional politicians prove over and over they are not up to politics in 2025. They live in a reality that disappeared years ago, before social media.

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

We’re a few days from the 50th anniversary of the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (the boat not the song), and the big lake Longfellow called Gitchee Gumee is angry right now, so I have an excuse to share some Lake Superior stuff tonight
Re the post below: it’s an early sign of spring in Upper Michigan when you see the ore boats on Lake Superior. The shipping season closes Jan 15-March 25 with the Soo Locks shutdown. Took this shot of a westbound boat in late April 2022, from east of Marquette, MI northernwilds.com/ore-boats-th...
